09' RMZ 450 smoking at start up???

As the title says I have a 2009 RMZ 450. I had a guy come to look into buying it tonight. He was happy with the bike until we started it. The bike starts 2nd to 3rd kick every time and when cold under start up it puts out some blue smoke (its not losing oil). He then decided he didnt want to buy the bike. I never noticed the smoking really being an issue as it seems to go away when warm and riding. So, does anyone else have an RMZ that does this, or is this only mine and should have it looked at?

The most likely culprit is loose/worn valve guides and seals.

When you shut the engine off, a small amount of oil leaks past the seals and guides into the combustion chamber. Firing it up burns the oil off.

Warm that bitch up next time before the buyer gets there. It the valve seals. It's not a huge problem to change them if you want.

Was it cold when you started? My friends 09 runs VERY rich when its cold. But I agree with the other to comments as well. Aways warm them up before someone looks at it. You want a one kick wonder!

Yup. Just another unsuspecting guy getting screwed on a used four stroke. How about this idea? Have some scruples and fix it before you sell it, rather than tricking a buyer into buying your junk. People here always say they hate thieves, but isn't this the same thing. Have some dignity. Tell people it needs work. Sleep at night.

Well I had my buddy (who is a bike mechanic by trade) take a looksie at the scooter and he said it will be fine for someone to buy. He also said it could be just the valve seals leaking by a little bit. He also said that it should be fine for someone for quite a while. I have been riding and racing the thing lately and it runs like new other than the smoke. To be honest, I never thought anything of the smoke unitl someone brought it up, the thing could have been doing this all along, I just never really paid attention to it. (this prespective buyer was OVERLY meticulous looking at the bike. Example he spent around 10 minutes starring at a leaking fork seal, ha ha)

I don't think this was a overly anal buy. I am the same way when buying used. Plus, a leaky fork seal tells me that maintences isn't a priority, since they are easily fixed. I probably would have walked as well.

Trust me man, this dude was OVERLY anal. In all honesty I didnt know the seal was blown. I fixed those last night. I rode the bike the week before washed it and put it away. I saw on craigslist that he had a wanted ad up there, so I called him. I was not really prepared to sell when we met up (my bike wasnt for sale at the time). Oh well, it is what it is.
