First off, that is insane!

However, I see a 1 1/4 rotation off the lip? Which translates into a 450, not a 540?

Besides the skill required to do such a feat, what is it that I am missing here?

BTW, they claim Slater is 40 years old in the beginning of the video.

Nice, Growing up surfing the gulf coast (Texas) til we moved to Az 2 yrs ago. I can agree that just landing an air is hard. Throw in a spin and not grabbing the rails and landing in the flats, is like OC said GNAR!!

Since we are on the topic of surfing. I got a little story to tell. We had to go down to Long Beach to buy some foam blanks that I was shaping into wakesurf boards. So we cruised down to Doheny state park and I took my 9'6'' nose rider out and had a blast chest to shoulder, good form. Anyways got bored and loaded up and went down just west of Camp Pendelton (another state park can't remember the name) Decided to take my 6'0'' swallow tail thruster out. It was pumping atleast a foot overhead. I SPENT 2 HRS GETTING WORKED!!!! My leash must of grew 5'' by the time I got out of the water lol. It wasn't the size that was messing with me it was the last thing my wife said to me before I paddled out. " Be careful they spotted a Great White here last week, and this is were they give birth to pups during summer" I was like WTFAngry , you didnt need to tell me that. So I spent 2 hrs paranoid and everytime a piece of kelp would touch me I would just about have a bowl movement. Blink I looked like the biggest KOOK that day.Laughing

I think Kevin James said: "I scream the same exact way if I'm in the water and a shark or a piece of seaweed touches my foot".

And he still lost that one even with that move. I thought Kelly was younger than me at 38. He is the Goat of surf for sure. He used to drop in on me daily at sebastian Inlet. He would look straight at you as he paddled in on your wave and bottom turn to air in your face. good times.

That's some super sticky wax! Believe the guy in the video said Slater was 40. How do you keep stepping up you're game at that age? He's not human!

Thanks for sharing that OCS!

Tahiti's Teahupoo has been one of big wave surfing's most revered locations for two decades, but the waves that hit the island's horseshoe reef on August 27, 2011 were unlike any that had been surfed before. Billabong's "Code Red," a new film documenting that historic day through the eyes of surfers Dylan Longbottom and Laurie Towner, features all the action, captured using the super-slow-motion Phantom camera. You've never seen surfing like this. Premieres April 25, 2012 on http://youtube.com/networka.
