Good for him.
Pit Row
Think about it, if there were no money (read, sponsors and TV) in being consistent enough to win a series of races, then every single racer out there would try to win each and every race.
So they win championships for money because thats what sponsors want.
But, they win races because thats what racers do.
Take away the money and see if Barcia ever settles for less than first place.
Do we race so that people will remember us? Do we race for money? Or, do we race to cross the finish line before the other riders that lined up with us on the gate?
Overachieving - To perform better or achieve more success than expected
I would say Ricky running 7th in his heat (and actually moving forward toward the top 5) was performing better than what was expected.
Barcia won the first four rounds, and played it smart and now has the title. You keep winning or running near the front and good things will happen.
It happened to Showtime 7 times.
