I understand your point, but it raises the question, why are we racing?

Do we race so that people will remember us? Do we race for money? Or, do we race to cross the finish line before the other riders that lined up with us on the gate?

Huh? I guess you don't know the meaning of overachieving. Here:

Overachieving - To perform better or achieve more success than expected

I would say Ricky running 7th in his heat (and actually moving forward toward the top 5) was performing better than what was expected.

These things are inherently linked. Win races, win championships, win money, beat the other guys.

Barcia won the first four rounds, and played it smart and now has the title. You keep winning or running near the front and good things will happen.

It happened to Showtime 7 times.
