Look for big deals. BIG deals... Vegas is throwing the red carpet treatement to get people to visit.

I'm looking for something reasonable (around $100) for the U.S. open weekend close to the MGM.

I've been looking around Kayak.com for a bit, but I thought there was somewhere else that Dave used specifically for Vegas.

Vegas is desperate for your money right now.

Couple options.

If you need airfare, look into booking an air/hotel package through something like Kayak (my favorite), Orbitz or Travelocity. They're packaging many of these so well right now that the room is basically free. Check airfares first to make sure, but hotels are really trying to get you in their place.

You can also call the hotels directly and make them compete. Call one and get a price, call another and tell them "I can stay at Luxor for $xx on a week night, what can you do?"

Also, if you plan on gambling, the more you step down in hotel, the easier it is to get it comp'd off.

Example, you stay at Bellagio, you're going to need to play $50 a hand for a minimum of 4 hrs a day to get your room comp'd free...and that's a maybe. $100 a hand for sure.

Same play at Riviera or Excalibur, you'll get food free too.

Play $25 a hand for 4 hrs min at any hotel downtown (Fremont St) and you can probably get your hotel and food comp'd.

BUT.....if you prepay a room through a travel agency like Orbitz, they cannot comp it off because you already paid for it.

If you plan to gamble enough to warrant comps, book directly through hotels.

That all make sense?

Remember, all this is based on your travel plans not being the weekend of a big fight, show or trade show

Then I would definitely shop out Luxor, Monte Carlo, Excalibur (yuk) and NYNY

NYNY always seems to have deals.

All four are across the street from MGM, where the race is
Try the Hooters Hotel/Casino also, they're desperate and in financial trouble, same for Tropicana, which should just be imploded

I'm not sure what kind of expectations or standards you have

but screw the MGM...unless they have dropped their prices waaay down.

Agreed
MGM gets a premium that weekend, unless you have a host and/or gaming history

Cool, thanks for the info.. I'll probably do a hotel/airfare package through kayak. Is Hooters as tastefully tacky as their restaurants?

I have stayed at Hooters. I actually kinda liked it. Its not fancy at all but it is not a shit hole either. Just basic and simple. You can get a real cheap room there as well as long as you plan around an event. I was there the week of the superbowl. My room started out at $49 a night. Then it went to $69, $89, $145, $180, $250 then $375. The Dan Mariono resturant is right off to the side and it is pretty good. I never had a dinner there but I ate breakfast there several mornings for about $6 and service was fast with large portions. I have had good luck using www.cheapoair.com , so you might check them out.

I was gonna mention Hooters, but I had a friend who stayed at the Motel 6 next door and it's pretty bad. But then all you're doing is sleeping there so it's all relative. If you get a car the South Point is on Las Vegas Blvd a couple miles south of where the Strip ends. Nice, good resturants and they have some good deals.

Planet Hollywood is pretty nice, and next door to MGM.

Since going with the new theme there have been a lot of promotions.

I'm going back to Vegas.....what shows should I see?

Saw there's a new Criss Angel Cirque show starting soon. Anyone think it would be good?

The Criss Angel show got pushed back, wasn't ready
I'd give that a few months to shake out.

Any of the Cirque shows are good, except for the one at NYNY, Zumanity (zzzzz)
I like Blue Man Group, seen it a few times

Don't know how old you are, but if you remember the 60's "Jersey Boys" is a lot of fun.
