He's gonna replace Nagl for the first 5, starting with Valkenswaard this weekend. Kinda fast decission, hope it all works out good

I hope Kens fitness is 100%. He could be a dark horse.

*Just read on motocrossplanet that he'll only be doing the first 5 rounds on the redbull ktm. Hopefully he'll podium each one and get a ride with them.*

RED BULL KTM FACTORY RACING TO FIELD KEN DE DYCKER AS MX1 REPLACEMENT RIDER

KTM has announced that Ken De Dycker of Belgium will ride for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team for the first five rounds of the MX1 World Championship starting on the Easter weekend in Valkenswaard, Netherlands.

KTM learned recently that De Dycker was planning to start his own team and together with Claudio de Carli, manager of the Red Bull KTM MX1 Factory Racing Team, a spontaneous decision was made to offer him the possibility to compete in first five rounds. He will stand in as a temporary replacement for the injured Max Nagl.

Having the Belgian rider as a temporary replacement will give Max some additional time to recover from surgery to his back. He is making good progress in his recovery plan however the team wants him to be completely fit before he gets back to the strenuous business of racing.

De Dycker has now made a first test on the KTM MX1 bike and according to the team it went very well. Having him available for the first five rounds will give the factory team the benefit of having the usual two rider lineup as well as allowing Nagl some breathing space to fully concentrate on his recovery. The Belgian rider will race in the team together with KTM’s current MX1 World Champion Tony Cairoli.

Remember when Dungey got on the KTM at Monster Energy Cup and it looked like a smaller bike, imagine what it will be like with Ken on it!

I think he doesn't really deserve that ride... Just my opinion based on his prior results.

I'm more surprised why he doesn't ride the new 450 KTM (Dungey's version)? From the pictures I think it's the "old" 2012 (and not the 2013) bike?

On his day Ken can beat some of the best riders. He's frustrating when he seems to fade then have a burst of energy way to late.

When he was at CAS honda he apparently couldn't keep up with David Thorpes tough training programme. Whether that says anything...

I don't mean to criticize your English but can you explain what you mean by "he needs to deserve full support". I don't understand. Can you elaborate on why he is riding the old bike? Thnx.

He needs to show results to get full support. A factory team aint gonna throw money at you just out of sympathy.

And @THE mx addict: He did great until Suzuki booted him (and Ramon) in 2009. He was 9th in his first GP and then progressed into a consistent top 5 in the championship. He dropped allot in performance since he got booted out of the Yellow team. Yamaha Ricci and LSHonda did not work out for him. Maybe KTM does, let's wait and see how well they match.

That guy is worthy of a full factory ride, and now he gets the chance to prove it.

Everts said that De Dycker will replace Nagl for the 1st 5 rounds. Nothing is sure after the 5 rounds. If De Dycker does well then there is a chance he will continue to ride for KTM. KTM will still have "full support" for Nagl.

KDD wasn't happy with his old team (LS Honda) and that's how the deal came together. KDD will ride Nagl's old KTM because he didn't had great results last year. The reason why they chose to get De Dycker instead of somebody from their MX2 team is because they didn't want to "weaken" their MX2 team.

I hope he does well too. He traditionally seems to have had fitness issues in the past at some races but he's still an awesome rider and will no doubt add to the depth of the GP series. I also instinctively think that the KTM will suit Ken - it's a roomy bike and as a tall rider myself, I instantly felt very comfortable on mine. Certain bikes just seem to suit certain people. I'll be rooting for him come Monday anyway.

not being funny but DeDycker rides 80's like a rocket - any bike will be small under him regardless of manufacturer, he will go quick, then chills, then relights his fuse, then chills.

the thing with him is he is very strong, doesn't really crash out and he has vast experience - the other things such as his age old arm pump related performance issues may get worked out with a different team who knows - regardless it's good that he has a ride and that Nagl doesn't have to rush back in - KTM are a good outfit to be with really, moving that quick and they cover their riders well.

he will be on the podium in at least one of the 5 rounds (probably even valkenswaard!) and end up riding for them all season i think- he knows he's got the chance to be on the best team in the paddock and he can haul ass in the sand, he will do well this season.

Its a tough class though- any one of 10 riders could end up on the podium/ win!
