Stripped bolt

I have a stripped oil drain bolt on my 2010 yz450,should I try a time-sert or heli coil,has anyone tried these?

Time sert hole has to be drilled out rather large, you may not have room for that.

go and get youreself a tap and die kit and retap a new thread and fit another bolt

I did that to my 2000 426 back in the day. The shop I took it to put a heli-coil but they didn't drill straight and it started leaking. Another shop put a time sert in. Since then I have put many heli-coils in and I don't understand way how that orginal shop screwed it up. They aren't that hard and go in rather smoothly. Plus you can get them anywhere (I get them at my local ACE) and they aren't very expensive. Thats where I would start. Good luck!

One of the first bits of machanical knowledge my father shared with me was on my xr 75 striped oil drain bolt, he coated kite string with permatex and wrapped it in the threads and installed and said don't take it out, I didn't and it never leaked . Not a permanent fix but I figured I'd share.

What he said or time sert. Heli Coil is a full crap repair. Time sert is excellent but $$$$$$. In this instance, next size up bolt seems best.
