Osborne's crash due to 4 stroke blowing up

Edited Date/Time 3/24/2012 1:10pm
Osborne (@thereal338) tweeted, "Thanks to everyone for the support. I'm out of hospital and headed home. It's unlucky that this has happened. It's unfortunate for me and for the team.
The limits are being pushed so far with the 250f and break downs will happen. I'll be back stronger and better but not sure exactly when that will be."

I didn't hear about his crash. When was it and how bad was he injured?

This never happened on a two-stroke...

With that sarcasm out of the way mechanicals like this in my opinion fall on the team/mechanic/practice mechanic.

That sucks. Is there time for him to be ready for the start of the GP's? I don't know when they start.

This 2 strokes shit is getting old, bikes blowing up on a jump face happened so much more often with 2 strokes it's not even close.

Short memory syndrome?

Yeah it happened on a two stroke as well, but you didn't have to give up an arm and a leg to fix it. lol

Trying out a "new" type of piston in the night show of a supercross isn't the best place for testing parts at the top level of the sport. Ask Ping about that.....

And the fact that a top level rider spells it out that 250F's are being pushed to the edge yet the four stroke faithful line up to call bullshit on it is hilarious. Face it, the 250F at the professional level is an absolute money pit. They are trying to get 450 power out of them and it takes more rpm's to do it. Single cylinder thumpers don't spin 15,000 rpm's and remain reliable. Stock bikes with rev limiters set at 13,500 at teams such as PC set at 14,500. The revs don't just magically stop climbing when the ignition hits the limiter do they? How much overrev will one of those bikes generate when getting pushed hard?

Now we're going to hear from the guys with 100+ hrs on same valve train, top end, that insist that 4 stk torque means the motor is still fresh.

When did you EVER see a 2T toss a rider like Stewart's mid air seize on his KX 450?
Pretty sure it was southwick.

AND speaking of southwick. How many PC 250f's EVER made it out alive?

That's one of my top 3 examples, and James vs Reed in the whoops, Dungey coming out that corner

I'll tell ya his story.
After riding a clapped out 125 with crust an inch thick on the filter and a kick starter that would rotate on its own, it stopped running.
(until $105 latter then ran fine again).

Back in 89 on my RM125 the pin on the piston that stops the ring from moving around came out. Stock piston.

Top gear pinned over a finish line ski jump, woke up in hospital. Got real lucky with just twisted top 3 verterbrae and a concussion, got around walking, or should i say shuffling like a 90 year old for about 2 weeks.

People thought i was dead lying on the track.

Everything blows up, it's just that the consequence on a 4skin is WAY worse for medical bills and mechanical bills.

125's?? Thought we were talking about 250's here? LOL How many 250 2 strokes blew chunks at the Wick? How many open class 2 strokes blew chunks at the Wick?

But since you brought up the 125, a full on 125 race engine from spark plug to drain plug costs less than just the head on a full race 250F, right??

I never said it didnt, i was asked for my story, that is all.

I like riding both 2 strokes and 4 strokes.

I'll bet the hole that the ring locator pin was pressed into did not go all the way through to the inside of the piston. Small pocket of air behind the pin, heat buildup and different expansion rate of the cast aluminum piston and the steel ring locator pin caused it to come out maybe?? Had the same thing happen on a cast Honda piston but the bike just lost compression and died rolling to a stop. Friend of mine fought that problem with a bunch of forged Wiseco pistons in his badass boat motor.

Yea, i was meaning to quote this line: AND speaking of southwick. How many PC 250f's EVER made it out alive?

That is why i brought up 125's shitting the bed at the wick...speaking of that, shit i wonder what it is like back at Lommel in Belgium? that place is so deep and nasty it prob has a graveyard of blown motors parts. We need to get one of the locals here to tell us some stories, it makes The Wick look like hardpack.
