Will be driving in from out of state for the race.
Can anyone recommend a hotel(s) in a safe area?
Thanks in advance for any input!

Almost every downtown hotel in indianapolis is in a safe area. It's absolutely gorgeous there and most surrounding hotels are connected by a "skywalk connector" which is basically a set of hallways that allow you to venture to different hotels and attractions. We stayed at the springhill suites by marriot last year and it was great. This year we're staying at the courtyard by marriot. If you go onto http://www.lucasoilstadium.com/visitors/getting-around-indy-hotels.aspx you can see all the ones located to the skywalk.

True story...anything downtown is safe and within walking distance of just about anywhere that you'll need to go. We got rooms at the Hilton just over a week ago.

Skip the La Quinta. We stayed there for the Dealer Expo. I'm pretty sure the walls are made of toilet tissue. On the upside, the elevator will hold at least three people at a time (two if they have luggage).

HYATT usually has rooms open even that day - pricey, fairly close, usually some fruity hair salon convention going on in there,

too.

Lol I get out plenty just when the closest cities to you are dumps like Philly and new york Indy looks like the hotels are gold plated. I don't even wanna go into that nightmare that's Atlanta. Literally sat and watched drug deals going down underneath my hotel room. Just saying that Indy is far and above the nicest city I've ever been to and I've been to a few.

Now, what are the restaurant recommendations? I'll have a 7th-grader in tow but we'll be looking for some good energy. We'll be hoping for a moto vibe but we'll also be checking out some March Madness (hoop). Anyplace within waddling distance from the stadium (I'm old and broken so would like it to be within a mile or so)?

Most of Indy is good.

For the trade show I booked the Quality Inn East by the airport for 4 days...... after NO hot water and listening to jets taking off all night .... I checked out as several others were also doing. Went to the East side of Indy... no airport!
