Me totally dig RV. But let's not upset the apple cart by putting the cart before the horse and putting our eggs in one basket

before the gift horse leads us to water.

A lot of us thought we might see it when he reeled off those 125 (250f) outdoor titles. But his transition to the big bike was a little rocky.

Remember, RC won EVERY outdoor title he entered, and never failed to defend a title. I hope we never see domination like that again.

Why couldn't it happen?

How about he's never lost an Outdoor Championship where he has finished the whole series....

He overalled the MXDN on a 250F...beating RC...

He is one of very few to win the premier class championship in both SX and MX in the same year....

Sure, I'm an RV fanboy...but if things keep going the way they are heading right now he could very easily end his career with the same type of accompishments as RC

Things could just as easily go the other way though...you gotta roll with the punches in this sport...

For what it's worth I hope Dungey heals quick, we need him to keep some parity in this sport.

He's stated he isn't goign after Ricky's number of wins but he will be the most dominate guy for the next few years..I don't see whose coming up that can challenge him....Dean Wilson...thats it. Maybe Barcia

He has everyones number

GOAT = Greatest of "ALL" time...

Villo is on it for sure, but not gonna wear the RC crown... Imho

Your 2nd line alone is exactly why he'll never be the next RC. RC never had this sentence be applicable to his entire Outdoor career.

There's two ways to look at that. One is how you described and the other makes the argument that to win with this much current parity would mean even more.

No. He's great, and will no doubt be a legend of the sport by the time he's done, but he's nowhere near Carmichael's league. Remember, RC not only won every Outdoor title he competed for, but won every single one of them before the final round.

How about he just be the first Ryan Villopoto?

People, even though there are millions of them, are one of a kind..

Same goes for MX racers and all professional athletes alike..

There will never be another Ricky Carmichael, just like there will never be another Ronnie Mac!

the last thing the sport needs is another carmichael. i want to watch a good race every weekend. it looks like that may be slipping away this year if #7 can't get things togeather.

Putting it in perspective......

if RV wins BOTH MX and SX titles every year for the next 5 years straight (starting right now) he will be TIED with RC for championships. I think RV is already 3 titles off of the pace RC did it at and it would be beyond ridiculous to do that double up for 5 years straight. I like RV but RC was just stupid with what he accomplished.

RC already has that one aswell!

He's retiring in 3 years so he wont have time to get close to RC's record anyway.

James never beat RC in a title chase and if ricky had stayed he would have won. Not because RC was faster than James all the time, but he was certainly smarter and wouldnt put his neck out there for one race win. Championships pay more than race wins Wink

have some fucking respect

cant believe anyone questions RC these days

Umm you do realize that rc never lost an outdoor championship he contended in right? (this doesn't count 1st race or last 7) that fact alone puts him in the goat status and disquallifies rv...IMO you can't spin it and talk about series finished. I've never lost an AMA bigs either by that reasoning Smile

I've said before that RV = RC, RD = CR, and TC = JS.

But I don't mean that Villopoto will have Carmichael-like numbers by the end of his career. You can't predict that stuff. I just mean that the role he fills in the series is much the same as Ricky's, Dungey's role was/is Chad's, etc.

You have the "slow" guy, who's extremely consistent. He'll be getting a lot of 3rds and is often called "smart" or a "strategist," as well as "consistent," "slow," "cautious," "in control," "scared," and "lucky."

Then you have the "fast" guy, who's a little too wild to be consistent.
He'll get his share of race wins and plenty of Fastest Laps, but he also sees plenty of the ground. He is often called "dangerous" or "crazyballs," as well as "instinctually murderous," "scrub-happy," and "stewpid."

Finally you have the guy who strikes the perfect balance of consistency and speed. He's always up front, but when he's not he's in 2nd or 3rd. He can be found in the points lead, and is often called "fast," "smart," "prepared," "well-trained," "on another level," "defending champ, "champ," "future champ," and "the greatest."

I'm not sure where Barcia, Wilson, etc. will fit into this. But the competition will be tough and it'll probably create more and more balanced riders like RV.
