Originally posted this in the the regional southeast topic, but got no responses. Me and a couple of buddies are heading down from PA to go riding for the weekend of Feb. 24-26 and our looking for tracks in the the NCMP, Hog Heaven area. We were really looking forward to Hog Heaven and found out that they are closed for the Atlanta supercross. Major bummer. VMP is also closed for some reason. We were also thinking of heading over to Lake Sugar Tree. Any other suggestions would be awesome. Thanks

Not to hijack the thread but I've got similar questions and this should help you out to because its the same area.. Going down first week in march. I've been doing alittle research.

Here's a list that I came up with of some what close tracks

Club mx will most likely be our first stop, from there to hog heaven its 130 miles. Possum kingdom is alittle far but it looks nice to

Here's my question. There are 5 tracks within 50 miles of eachother, I've been looking at pics and watching vids but I'd rather here first hand accounts.

Countyline mx, half moon mx, sandridge mx, hawbrach mx

Can anyone testifies that any of these tracks are good or should we just stick with club mx and hog heaven?

Yeah, we are super pissed that Hog Heaven is going to be closed the weekend we are going down. Heard so much good stuff about that place and figured that was going to be the highlight of the weekend.

Checkout halstead motorsports practice facility at halsteadmx.com. It is located in Rocky Mount, VA about 20 mins south of Roanoke.

If you're in the mood for sand, RIver City MX Park is a pretty nice little practice track near Elizabeth City NC (near the coast).

VMP and Southfork no longer do open practices every weekend, just a few times a year.

Grew up near Birch Creek, it's hard clay but a big outdoor track.

We are leaving Friday morning for NC. JWTF is good, which is the old Crystal Coast, which is a harder packed sand track. NCMP on Friday (just trails and the SX track since they are racing this weekend), down to JWTF for 2 days then off to NCMP on Monday.

Been to Hog Heaven over Christmas break and it is a good track, although it gets really rough and gnarly! Some accidents, but if your not used to deeper sand, it gets rough and will bite you. My kid thought that the track was STUPENDOUS for about an hour, jumping everything and powersliding his 150 around like never before. then he wanted the dozer to come out and fix all the craters and holes. I just laughed and kept riding myself. Gets rough like Southwick, just there isn't any elevation changes.

Been to 5 points MX. Phil runs a nice track. We went there twice this year. Not like a superhardcore track, but great for mini riders and vets. Nothing like Club MX. This track is very family oriented, but good.

East Bend is kinda a dump. Wouldn't waste my time on that side of NC this time of year, as the East Coast gets better weather this time of year.

Countyline I hear is good, as is Wide open. Haven't been to either. JMP down in Jacksonville is good, although it is another deep black sand track. Just preparing you. Never been to Hawbranch or those other tracks, but I did go with a group last year that stayed longer then us and they had a blast at those places!! I think they are rider/family oriented too-No do or die triples like Club MX has. Club MX is good if you are hardcore, but it isn't for vets or mini riders, in my opinion. Club MX is owned by Osborne, and we all know what he is capable of in SX......

I'm looking for someplace different to ride on Friday, since NCMP is half closed on Friday. Can't ride the big track till Monday. Is there anything else close to the NC/VA border on the east coast running on Friday since I won't leave PA till EARLY Friday morning. Something like 7 hours drive from PA(like NCMP) or possible 8, but it needs to be open on Friday.

Thanks
Greg

I'll give you a quick and dirty on what should be good for this weekend.

RiverCity MX - Elizabeth City, NC: Good sand track as Stacey always keeps things groomed early and lets the track get rough. Not the largest or most challenging jumps, but a good mix of obstacles for all. He has a kiddie track as well.

5 Points MX - Pinetown, NC: Phil also does a great job of keeping the track in good condition, as well as keeping everyone informed on Facebook of the riding conditions. Its not a ClubMX like mentioned above, but its FUN and a good mix of obstacles for everyone. Soil is very nice too.

NCMP - Henderson, NC: Although there is a race this weekend, you may want to stop by Saturday to ride open practice from 8 or 9am to 1. You get to ride the prepped main track, and when I say it turns out beautiful, it's beautiful! Once you finish up, rip the trails or Vet track till quitting time.

Jimmy Weinerts Training Facility(JWTF) - Maysville, NC: Youtube the place, as Jimmy has done a great job expanding the riding area at the former Crystal Coast MX facility, and you will probably find him on the dozer sculpting some new creation for the boys down there to ride.

South of the Border MX - If you miss this place, you're slow: Like I said, just look for the signs along 95(seems like they start in VA), have not been here yet but the pictures make it look like heaven. I do know a few guys that train there and they are sold on the product.

Hog Heaven - Godwin, NC: Just go to this place if you can.....no excuses.

Countyline MX - Bolton, NC: Great reviews from friends about the flow, and quality of this place. Have not made it there yet.

Hope this helps. Honda907: I'm originally from the Berlin area.....PM me and I may be able to get you in on a private track ride Saturday. Heres a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_eWGR1Z_0c

Here is the track links from our D13 web site http://www.d13mx.com/trackinfo11.htm. We have a LL qualifier at ECMX The weekend you mentioned. Birch Creek is close to Lake sugar tree and is a nice track. Not sure they will be open that weekend so you would need to call.

My son and I will be at NCMP all weekend. Stop by and say hi. We are on newer Honda 450s and we are both number 50. You can ride open practice all day sat and the track should be perfect.

Dude, if you're going to be in the Carolinas that weekend you might as well roll to the Atlanta SX. If not all of the recommendations above are good.

Bumpp

Heading down either the 27th or the 4th. Anyone know what days countyline and 5 points are usually open? Are they open all week?

we would love to go to the atlanta sx, but families and jobs are limiting us to a 3 day trip. if we were both single i am sure the trip would be extended to a week or more.

i hear that NCMP only grooms on the weekends, is this true?
