For me anyway, I try to ride at the speed I use to when I was young. I'm smarter now, but don't have the stamina I had back then. If I could run wide open and not get tired, I'd be challenging Barcia, Tomac, etc! Silly

So, for many of you the question is... What limits you, your balls or your stamina?

For me, stamina is the issue with my old lungs...

This is suppose to be a fun thread!!!

Neither, my brain limits me. I could go faster but I'm 51 years old with a wife and three kids to support. Dad needs to stay in one piece.

I would say my speed is limited by osteoarthritis in the femoral head and severe degenerative disc disease in the lumbar.

At this point I am so banged up I might as well ride. My only fear is another "big one." And everybody I know has had another "big one."

Dude, I understand! I have 2 herniated disc in my lower back and two in my neck. I find that the better shape I'm in, the better it is. It is a fine balance of risk vs reward and we all try to find a balance.

Me too! When I was young, I thought nothing but about the race. Now I think about work on Monday. This slows me down and I take less risks...

For me, my speed has always been limited by my fitness. I used to go balls to the wall to get as big of a lead as possible so when I petered out, I could still try to hang onto that lead.

It's frustrating to know you can go faster if your lungs would cooperate...

Great thread.

I`ve always ridden within my limits.

Where as a few of my best friends have more heart / balls than talent and either go down in a blaze of glory or finish 2nd to me.

It's my balls that slow me down. They're the size of cantaloupes and I can't sit down to corner.

It's neither. It's all about fear suppression. Motocrossers do shit on bikes that are enough to scare every single one of us, the kicker is how well we suppress the natural fear of being hurt or killed that everyone has. Add some good fear suppression to some skill and you have a fast rider.

I'd have to say that endurance limits 99% of amateur racers out there. We're all heroes for the first two laps.

Ever heard "Jukebox Hero" by Foreigner?
Try this: "He's a Two-lap hero, stars in his eyes..."

Your speed, baring age/physical/social obligations weighing on your mind, is directly attributed to the speed to which your mind/body responds/reacts to the track. Using your balls is the part you might need to get extra speed to beat your competition. lol

Kenny Roberts used to train his team riders how to imagine everything in slow motion..hence speeding up their reaction times on the track in real time. Worked for Wayne Rainey.

Scientists did studies on why its nearly impossible to swat a fly. They determined fly's see everything in slow motion, therefore their reaction time is amazing.

No. It's my four stroke. Too fast. Too heavy. Wrong year. Wrong color. Wrong frame. Wrong fuel system. Wrong stroke. Wrong displacement.

See the pattern?

Endurance has limited me for years. But it could be my bad habits as well. The worst two habbits I have never been able to break are breathing correctly in the first two-three laps and relaxing my hands. When I finally realize that I have been holding my breath and riding with death grip, its too late and my arms and lungs are LOCKED up. If I could figure these two things out, I could easily knock 3-5 seconds a lap off my lap times.

Getting injured and not be able to work is every working man's fear. Motocross to some is just a hobby, but to others its an addiction. I would say my moto addiction out weighs my balls, lungs, bank account and my priorities.

I am slow. I used to be slow. I will always be slow. I blame my lack of balls, lack of endurance, and lack of heart.

BUT, I have as much fun as RC (maybe even more) and anyone else that rides. That is what makes mx so damn awesome.
