Information on setting a GoPro for moto?

Sup bros, just got my GoPro Hero2 and was wondering if any of you have information on optimal settings for moto and trail riding. i'm going trail riding next week and would like to use it on the maiden voyage, but would like a good starting point.

any info would be appreciated

The 1260x720 60fps setting is the best for moto. The 60fps will let you slow the footage down if you want also. That's what I use and it work pretty solid...

My only advice is be careful not to aim it to low....no one wants to watch your front fender. Have fun!

BTW....I can only imagine the other stuff you're gonna do with that camera!!

I use a Kingston 16gb card for mine and haven't had an issue with filling it up, and thats with recording practice sessions and motos.

You can get one for under $20

Walmart sells 16GB class 10 cards (not MB waaayyyy to small) for $20 i think. You'll want one at least that big. Try to use a class 6 card or higher. Also, once you record your footage and transfer to your computer you'll want to formant the card when you put it back in the gopro. You do that by going to the trash setting on the gopro and formatting the card. that way it wipes it completely clean.

cool thanks guys, i knew my 32mb card was way too small, but was curious how much time i could fit in on the 16GB.

also, sorry for another noob question, but mine does not show a 1260 option.

should i stick to the 1080 with 30fps? and what about vision field?

if you have the Hero2, use the 1080p 30fps full wide mode. It's what GoPro uses in their videos and it looks the best. And ya, you basically have to aim the camera so it looks like it's pointing too high, just so it catches a bit of your beak.

Sorry, the 1260 option is the 720 -60 setting. With the 16GB card you'll get 2 hours. Mine out last my batteries. The 720 and 1080 have the same field of view. If you aren't editing in a professional program you probably won't be able to tell much of a difference in the 1080 vs. 720. BUT, the 1080 setting will eat your card and batter life...At least it does on mine.

bought it on Amazon actually, didn't do much research, but when I bought it I had a choice between the water-sport version and the motorsport version. it's obvious which one i got. though, the water-version might come in handy when i'm deep-muff-diving.

only down side after opening the package though is that it only came with 2-curved adhesive mounts for helmets. i have two moto helmets and my dad has one, so we automatically have to buy a set of mounts. seems silly to me to sell a motorsport version and only offer 2 mounts.

hey bro, if you're going to ride behind someone or you plan on getting passed, throw some Rain-x on the lens so the dirt and mud doesn't stick on as well (or another product, if anyone has any non-stick recommendations).

It makes it pretty anticlimactic to come home from some sick ride and realize you had some roost on your lens the whole time.

I'm 0 for 2 on gopro's in the trees-which means my wallet is about $500 lighter...my next helmet cam will be the contour (because its lower profile). So if your riding in the woods, I recommend you mount it on the side of your helmet rather that on the top of your head...branches love to grab them up there.

that sucks man, i'm taking it on the mountain for snowmobiling tomorrow, i was thinking of building some sort of leash for it and hook it to my chest protector for that very reason.

anyone else end up with a choppy picture on the pc when you try to replay it but end up with perfectly clear when hooked to the tv? what would cause that?

Use the chest mount. It's safer and gives a better perspective. Lots of people make tethers for their gopros in case they get knocked off.

You choppy picture on your PC is because your PCs video card cant handle the large file size of the gopro.

The chest mount is cool, but sometimes hard to get a consistent view depending on your riding style (i.e. going from attack position to sitting in corners captures different angles). The tether is a good idea, but as long as you install the mount on a clean/dry surface it should stick just fine... the only time the adhesive on the mount has failed me is in cold weather (e.g. snowboarding). Also, I put florescent orange duct tape on the back of mine so that if they do fall off on the track they are easy to find.

If your climate is humid at all get the dehumidifier inserts, buy some spare plastic lenses ( for the case ) branches & roost scratch them pretty easy, my first one lasted two rides.
As said 16GB is a nice size, you never run out of memory before the battery dies ( I use 720p 60HZ ).
I've mounted mine on the side of helmet because in the bush on top of your head is a bad place for a camera ( on the side also means you can loop some string around the visor mount in case it does come off, I guess you could do that on top, just a little more obvious & liable to catch stuff ).
Dunno what the 3M sticky stuff is from, but it's strong, like really strong.

I just bought one, tested it with the default settings. Turned out ok IMO. I had a 4GB card in my drawer, it filled up in about 45 min of use. My first video:

Take the rubber seal out of the case. (unless its raining I guess) It blocks the sound. Basically it muffles the mic until it hits a branch or something which will then blow your speakers up due to you having the volume turned way up just to hear the bike lol

Download vlc player and view your video's through that. The video on mine kept chopping when I viewed it through windows media player so I did a google search. And on a forum they suggested using a different player. It worked for me.
