My thoughts? I think you'll have a ton of fun with it...and that I don't have the time, patience, or skill to pull that off. Wink

Just thought of another question, where do I find that style and size of #?

I know im investing way more than I'll ever get back out of it but, damn its gonna be fun!

Last question, if I wanted Reed to see this bike what would be the easist way realistically. Im not sure how twitter works exactly but I think I might be able to send it to him that way possibly, im sure some of you on here know how to do that twitter stuff!

Oh well, at least you have it built the way you want it. It's gonna be like a new bike when you're done with it. Willy Musgrave would probably like to see it, since he's been through the same thing you have, with his '01 CR.

I checked it out, pretty cool read

" I doubt if you could find an 01 CR250 for $800 as used 2-stroke prices are going up significantly across the country. "

Sound familiar?

Man that's going to be one hell of a bike, keep posting.

And make room on the $350 01' CR250R Project bandwagon for me.

Can't wait for my own bike (but i'm still saving).

Man, it's amazing how simple the engines on these bikes are to rebuild. Love it. I'm kind of biting my nails waiting to see the final outcome of this one. Did you get a new crank stangkag? Looks sweet!

These are my favorite threads. I don't have the time, patience or, most importantly, the ability to take on a project like this, but I love to live vicariously through other's projects. Keep the pics coming.

Sure you do. Only problem is that it becomes a little addictive. LOL, okay a lot addictive.

HaHa, your more than welcome to come by and learn whenever you want. I just recently got into mechanics work on these things. I started on my buddies CR125, then a KX250F, then Grizzly 550, now this bottom end so ive been all over the place... I love doing it, I dont have any schooling or anything, I just use resources from the internet and take lots of pics when im dissassembling things.

Its not as hard as you guys seem to think, its just a little intimidating your first couple of times. If you take your time and are thourough, youll be just fine Smile

ALSO, ive decided to have someone else fill in for bowling tonight, I HAVE TO get this thing done my VITAL family has spoken Woohoo Evil

Here's one more fan watching this rebuild. I've got an 83 YZ 490 waiting in the garage for this same type of build. Now you're making me want to get started on it. Nice work.

Just get a Clymer manual, and keep the parts together when you take it apart. Sometimes good to put them in a labeled plastic ziplock bag. Besides getting the tools, that's all it takes.

Ain't that the truth! Pretty soon you start looking for blown up bargains.

This was my last project:

Starting to see some progress!!! Although I did miss a night of drunkin bowling Smile

Depending on tonights plans, she may go back into the bike tonight. However I had to send my water pump off yesterday to get powder coated so it wont get to ping for the first time until some time next week!!!

Thoughts?

Go back and file those grooves out of the outer clutch basket before you fire it up. Clutch will be smoother.

Wow, that motor is super clean. How did you get it that clean? The whole water pump impeler area looks new. I assume that's anew water pump impeller. Man, I'm gonna have to find a build.

That was my exact thought when I saw that also, it is badly notched......

Great thread, and good luck - this kind of stuff gives me goose bumps all over!!

Yes, what he said or just get a new Hinson outer and inner hub for your clutch and you will be dialed. Sweet build btw
