I always thought there should be an open class and just a 250 class after owning several bikes but didn't think it would be fair for the 125 class. Well my mind has been changed. This weekend they ran the super mini class with the 125 schoolboy class and a Crf 150 BR 's holeshot both motos and even won a moto. I know the 125 makes more power but the 150 has a smoother powerband. These bikes look pretty evenly matched as did the two stroke superminis. There was a kid who had a brand new Crf150 big wheel and a new Yz125 and I asked him and he said the 125 had more bottom and the 150 could be reved out further. Any opinions or has anyone ridden both if these?

In stock form, the crf 150r only puts out around 21 hp. The yz 125 puts out 34 hp. The big debate now is why are 150r's allowed in the 85 class and the answer is who cares. We are entering year 2 with the 150r and we have kept it stock and while there are some advantages with this bike, overall, an 85 with any amount of engine work will out perform in hp in the straights depending on track conditions. Couple that with a supermini, than there is no competition. People do not understand that in order to get 21 hp, out of the 150r or any 150 4 stroke for that matter, the cc's have to be increased. If you were to make an 85 cc 4 stroke, it wouldn't be competitive anywhere except the OI 50 class. I might be exaggerating with that scenario, but you get the idea. So, this Big Wheel Crf 150r must have had some bolt on kit for it to really be competitive with a 125.

One had a pipe the other had a stock pipe. As far as engine work I have no idea.

Raced against every CRF150R'S from 4,000 bike to 12,000 150r
never been beat or holeshotted by one...

They are not even competititive in any form 85-112's.

I would say it was the rider but a kid on a 125 won the first moto.

It depends on the rider. A smaller kid on the 150 could turn some pretty fast laps if he's a good rider, obviously he is since he won a moto.
