With James running SX only, it's less racing, less gate drops, less time on tracks with other riders blah, blah, blah... I just feel taking that much time off over the year, he has to have lost what edge he had. Currently if you're not in the top 3 around the first corner, with the depth we have now you are screwed.

James got the option to choose any brand I'm sure, and picked the Yamaha. If he was 2-3 sec faster on the "Zook", than the "YZF" (should this be considered as reliable info, and should we base our conclusion that the raw material as in bike, is to blame?) then Stewart is is having serious issues, that would most likely override any bike brand.

For the love of God, it's not the bike.

Wasn't half the forum glowing 3 w ago because the possibilities with JGR Nascar tech and $? And he won on the previous YZF that was considered the lesser bike by a majority?

" James, what THE HELL is going ON ? Is it the Yamaha ? "

I'm not subscribing to the Yamahauler conspiracy, I believe that he can win on the backward-engined

contraption, it does seem apparent that he had less face-to-face with the terrain on the other bikes

though. Opinions please ? Take off your 1992 AXO jerseys and come out swingin' !
JS7 took plenty of Dirt Samples on the KX450...

even if he was 2-3 seconds faster on yellow, he doesnt have to be 2-3 seconds faster on the yamaha to compete for a win. a good start and go. and concentrate and dont try something with the bike that may cause a fall or crash. he said he always wants to do something new and different on the bike as to stand out from the rest, well forget about it.

It's got nothing to do with speed, more of a mental thing of JS making mistakes. The best thing for James would of been to do a few SX races in Europe or something before the season started to get the race feel back again. I think he will get better but it might cost him to many points early on, we will see later in the season if it does.

I blame my Yamaha every time I run into someone's back wheel too.

not like he does on that yamaha...the best rookie move was when he got on the front binders hard on the wet grass in daytona and took the entire pack with him. the numerous front end wash outs he experienced on that yamaha is a record that may never be broken.

I believe it's not racing outdoors more than anything. Much like simple woods riding for us wanta be's, bike skilla racing the outdoors at his level tunes you into variables that much of the controlled enviro's of supercross don't. Far more variety outdoors, with conditions that change by the lap, little track prep, over/under watered, weather, more riders to work through, longer...so many variables that you have to compete with while battling others that are all progressing their game. James has been loosing the front end, pogoing over the bars and running into others. I think his lack of competing in the brutal Nats is his downfall.

this isn't baggin' on Stewart, I'm a fan.

But, just as there are riders known for their skill at testing and providing great feedback, isn't it possible that Stewart just isn't very good at that?

I think it's been pointed out just how good Dungey and Decoster are together, and they amazingly have proven it.

A new bike and Stewart without teammates that are at that level providing input, couldn't it just be a chink in the armor of one of the greatest riders? Which then makes you wonder why he wouldn't have went to Suzuki where the bike had become so refined.

That video says it all, checkers or wreckers, and he's rolling wreckers more often now.

It's not the Yamaha.

If I was in charge of Yamaha's PR, I would be giving some thought as to whether James has become something of a liability. I doubt any other top 5 rider on that bike would have landed in the dirt as often as he has and if they did I have to wonder if we would be blaming the bike.

All this talk about unlimited budgets-- bla bla bla-- dont always mean winning..

That yamaha is wack compared to the other 3 bikes and I dont care about unobtainum machined parts and nascar tooling, its still the ergos of that bike are out there in left field. Kudos to Yam for trying to be diff and sometimes you gotta take 2 steps back to move forward, but for the here and now JS7 would kill it on the Kawi (and im a honda fan). Thats what I think this Yam bike is-- a weird 2 steps back to move forward "innovative" kind of thing, not a winner YET.

Add on top of that JGR doesnt really have "the best" working for them either. The best managers and mechanics can be found at 22 camp and RD camp.

JS7 will win, he had a few unlucky moments, he will come around....but a dialed in team with a dialed in bike they do not have IMO.

Oh yea, then the tires suck...really- who the hell runs Pirellis anyway?
Ok.....you are an idiot.....

Now, I realize that everyone is in love with everything but the Yamaha, but this radically changed bike is only two years old! With no factory team, it's going to take a while for the support teams to figure it out. I'm pretty sure that JGR has it figured out. They do have some of the best in the industry working for them.....you obviously haven't a clue.

It is only two races into a year with 27 more races to go......and some morons are already saying that he is washed up. The top five are all so fast, it's going to be a great year of racing with each rider having a better setup at one track or another.

As far as the Pirellis.....James looked like he was hooking up out there at PHX where other guys weren't. Watch the helmet cam. He passed a bunch of guys because he was hooking up on a line more inside of anyone else. Nobody seemed to say anything about tires when other riders washed out: Dungy (A1), Reed (A1&PHX), and RV (PHX).

What is going to happen when James gets his starts figured out and is able to ride comfortably up front?

RUP....not so much "it's the yamaha" but more like "it isn't the suzuki, kawasaki or honda"

2-3 seconds a lap faster on the suzy webb took to him last year...those are the facts sad to say. i assume he couldn't get off the yamaha without some sort of repercussion/s so he is doing the best he can with what he has.

if coy gibbs is anything like his dad and these results keep continuing, shit will hit the fan i believe,
That's the truth right there.

i am a fan , but to me it just seems like he is setting up his bike wrong and probably would no matter what brand it was, davi's bike isnt hopping all over the place !
maybe they should just put a #7 on davi's bike and let him ride that one lol.

Not the bike.. just the simple fact that he no longer spends as much time racing against the best as Villipoto, Dungey, and Reed have have been doing all thru the outdoor MX season, so Stewart makes more mistakes when going 110% when against "the other fastest guys on the planet". He has the talent, but will not be on top again unless he fully commits to racing with the others/ against the others in both SX and MX.

I will say that his rear suspension set up may not be optimal from what I can see.

Reed knew exactly what he was doing. That was no rookie move.

It is DEFINITELY the bike's fault. JS has NEVER even crashed before he got forced by Obama to ride that POS boat anchor tank. Same thing happened to me. It ruined my career when I got that POS boat anchor. The only reason I don't crash every time I ride it is because I have Dunlops. If I were forced by Clinton to run Pirellis though, I'd crash every single I rode it too (just like poor JS).

I don't think its the bike, but in a Matthes podcast a while back Matthes said a few of the top guys said the bike is not good. RV said Byrne told him the bike was an "odd duck", and David Bailey said he thinks there is some issues there. I think the competition is much stronger now, it used to be just Reed, now there is a bunch of guys going that speed. My cousin has the Yamaha and loves it, granted he is not a top pro, but he is fast and qualified for Lorettas.
