Yeah, Minnesota is a "Police State". The bright shining Liberal Star of the North.

Entering someones home just because their garage door is open? Very appropriate that you have W's face as your avatar. You like the Patriot Act too, I suppose.

Is it a law that you can't leave the keys in your car or doors open?

An open door is not reasonable. If anybody else walked in, it would be breaking and entering or burglary, depending on the State you live in. Even if the door is open.

The totality of issues can bring one to a reasonable belief that something was wrong, and as public safety officers, they had a responsibility to investigate and make sure everyone is alright.

Doors open
Front door unlocked
Keys in car
Bodies on floor of living room

Not a stretch to believe something was wrong

Out of context! (Sound familiar Dave?) Local news, the Dad says it was very clear the boys were sleeping on the living room floor, not bodies strewn about. The cops will skew it how they want.

The cops walk in your house at 3AM and you are ok with that. BTW, news also states the cops saw the kids after they entered the home.

" How could anyone on this forum possibly think I like anything about Bush? You must new around here? "

You're a closet Bush worshipper? Wow!

I did not know that. ( With a Johnny Carson accent )

Sounds like good cops doing a good job. They knocked first after seeing garage door open and keys left in the ignition of the truck at 3am. They entered after receiving no answer at the door. The kids downstairs (who I am sure slept through the knocking on the door. yeah. right.) were afraid to wake the dad up, so the cops went upstairs and did it themselves.

Tough call for me, My doors are open all the time with the keys in the car a lot. On one hand the guy did nothing wrong and A LOT could have gone wrong, what if he would of shot an officer? According to this they have the right to come in my house right now, my garage door is open, keys in the car and EVERY, ALL five doors are unlocked. ( granted its 8 : 00 not 3 a.m ) tough call.

I think one might also consider the area in which you (they) live.
If you live in a small town, it may be no big deal and commonplace
Live in a larger town or suburb, it may be out of the norm.

It doesn't sound like the kids downstairs told them to leave. Probably gave them permission to come on in. It's not like they crept into the house and up the stairs. Old man was probably already aware something was going on downstairs, anyway, I'd guess. This is a non-starter.

It never ceases to amaze me the shit that some people are stupid enough to complain about.

"It turns out nothing was going on, except that Troy had forgotten to shut the garage and lock his doors, but police say they worried. A third of Lakeville's residential burglaries occur because of open garage doors, and just last month, a man in nearby Burnsville was murdered during a break in. That's why Vonhof says his officers did the right thing, not knowing if the Moldes were in danger."

The people who complain about shit like this, are the exact same people who are going to complain about cops not doing their job when their house gets broken into.

I read in another article that the kids were afraid to go wake up their Dad so the cops went upstairs to talk to him. Tells me something if the kids were afraid to go tell Dad the cops were there even if they didn't do anything.
