what do you prefer, a 250F or 450F?

I've raced a 450F for the last 3 years, only riding a 250F sometime practicing. The reason I did this is b/c I could race the MX B and the 4stroke class and collect kawi. contingency in both classes on ONE bike.

I prefer to ride/race the 250F bike b/c they are super light and overall easier to handle than the more powerful and heavier 450F.

I have never ridden a 450F but I have riiden a 250 F a good bit and it is by far the easiest bike to go fast on an MX track that I have ever ridden. Its the modern version of the 1973 Honda XR 75.

I raced a 250f for a couple years and it was such a fun bike to ride, but when I got the 450 it was a blast also-almost two much power but so nice to have the power for jumps coming right out of corners or long straights. There was a jump at a track I couldn't do coming out of a corner on the 250f, the 450f one blip and I was over it.


I never have felt I need more power on the 450. it's all there when I need it. On the 250f I had it wrapped out always wanting it to go a little more. It's a toss up for me. The 250f is fun to ride, I could ride more aggressive and with more adrenaline, it was easier to manuever, but left me wanting more power. The 450 has plenty of power when you need it, but I have to ride a little more conservative-kind of like slow down to go faster, where the 250f you can just pin it all the way in each gear. It's really a toss-up and preference. I did pretty good against the 450 guys on my 250f, just the starts hurt. Alot depends on your weight also. I was 200 pounds on the 250f and still did fairly well but my weight probably did hurt the power.

It's an RPM 304 big bore that we just finished massaging in a big way. I rode it tonight for the first time and it's unreal....pulls like a mini 450 down low and revs to the moon like a modded 250.

You did say cost didn't matter, right?

I find the 250F fun as well. There are times I'm left wanting a little. I know, some will say most people don't ride the bike to its full potential. Sometimes, someone of lower skill level actually needs a bigger more torque engine to ride well. Dr Mark, that is awesome, that could be what the Doctor ordered, No pun, LOL!!

i think a 300 thumper is the ticket! but since that cash isnt lying around, i chose the 450. i ride 250fs for fun, but i prefer the big bore thumper 9 times out of 10.

The 450's are the funnest bike I've ever ridden. I'm so glad I don't have to mess around with those damn 2 strokes anymore.

I have talked to two good riders who have rode punched out 250F's and they thought those were the best bikes they had ever ridden.

Why not just ride a 250 stroke with a flywheel weight? Save thousands, faster lighter more fun, cheaper to maintain,ect. Looks nice though if money isn't an issue.
If money wasn't an issue for me I would have 250s sitting in the crate for my kids when they get older just in case they do completely stop making them.

This is a bad ass bike...I would love to have it.

I rode a big bore 250F (290) it was awesome, but still, I weigh 220 pounds, six feet tall. I prefer the 450.

You are 100% correct sir. I have one .... err it's a 280 athena with a TMR race head and a single can WB carbon pro. Hands down the best bike I have ever ridden best of both worlds (250 vs 450) I think anyone who hasn't ridden should because you would change your tune real fast and they can dust a 250 2 stroke any day.....I am planning on having it dyno'd real soon and will post the results when I get them. As for reliability concerns as long as you don't mess with the RPM ceiling and compression aren't messed with they are just as reliable as a stocker.

I have a 450 and all i gotta say is that you cant hold the throttle "wide open" as much as a 250f you gotta know how to control it or or else a 450 will do you no good against a 250 especially cornering, a bit heavy and like I said if you cant control it you'll stall on the corners.
