You guys just act like this sponsorship consisted of a cash transfer and a bunch of tires. That's not how these things work; there are teams of lawyers that negotiate every detail of a deal like this. Be certain that if Pirelli didn't want James running another brand's tires in practice it would be in the contract WITH PENALTIES.

If you were suspecting that there may be a tire issue and you had a practice or two to sort things out why wouldn't you run a different tire just to set a benchmark. I'm sure getting a dunlop from another team was pretty easy. At any rate Stewart didn't run this tire in the race; it was practice.
Ask Mitch if he really used Splitfire's
Tim Dixon's the driver at Toyota/JGRMX/Yamaha.
If it woulda been Milsaps running a Dunlop nobody would care....
A couple years ago the entire Kawi Factory off road team was sponsored by Pro Circuit (with the stickers on their suspension) and not a single one of them was actually running Pro Circuit suspension.
i mean, i aint no smartee pants, but that is some bull shit. practice, race, don't matter.
you don't see Reed riding a KTM with red plastic during practice
Pit Row
They were probably in the wrong for having possession, legally speaking. I am guessing that's in the contract.
Pirelli was not hurt: they are developing a tire in conjunction with JGR and must be interested in understanding if it is the bike or the tire. Without knowing, the tire cannot be developed well.
This is why Matthes is the best moto journalist bar none.
If they really cared they would've said something at the race.
How come nobody is screaming bullshit that they drink water out of the Monster cans....my god the lawyers will probably have to work overtime to clear all that up! Ha
If I had to guess, he was feeling something not normal from the bike and he wanted to try out some tires he was very familiar with to make sure it was the bike and not the tires, seems to me like its a team/rider leaving no stone unturned to make sure they have the best package possible. By god I'm on board with that, JGR is the shit and they are going to bring this sport to the next level equipment wise!
I'm guessing JGR is in contract with Pirelli throughout this year else, why wouldn't they ditch the 100k for Dunlop.
Like I said, if Millsaps rides the first practice with a Dunlop there wouldn't even be a thread on here about it....
