Seems pretty straighforward in the "open mic"

"I think not racing in awhile hurt a little bit. Not speed wise, but other things. I think we missed the setup, and the way guys are riding right now, if you don’t get the setup, it’s tough. "

Like most of the guys, didn't like the track. "The set up we had to use here was completely different. But we all had to adapt, there are no excuses there."

Q: "Yeah the starts were bad in both the heat and the main. Anything you can point at there?"

A "Yeah it’s my fault. I was doing something different than I did last year, and I did it at the first race here, and I figured it out. It’s my fault, it’s been so damned long since I raced, I should have gone back to the notes. But we’ll figure it out. We’re okay, I’m looking forward to Phoenix."

There's the concession that so many have wanted that it's not helped to be away during the outdoors.

Personally, I think he wants to be the winningest SX rider of all time. (SX wins, not titles)

Race wins seem to be the priority for him, second place is a failure in his mind.

Why's that funny? He's been doing it for years.

Who do you think James Jr's first riding coach was? Smile

He'll be fine. Doesn't seem nearly as wrapped up in it as half the people on this board.

And some whoops and jump sections that arent from the arenacross series! HA

On a serious side though, who ever gets the start is going to be hard to beat. They are all close enough in speed that if you are out side the top ten off the start it will be really tough to make the box.

He will be fine. I think everyone was caught a little off guard by the track. They don't have the bike 100% where they want it yet and he missed the start. He knew Villopoto was gone at that point. I think he was willing to settle for 4th until Reed and Dungey went down. He made just as small of a mistake as Reed and Dungey, it just happened in a worse spot and he lost more time. I'm sure they'll all be a little closer on a more conventional track in Phoenix.

^^^This....

Everyone acts like his career is over from how he raced Saturday night. Everyone has bad races and even his off night wasn't so bad. I can bet that if he wins the championship this year (by a small margin) he will remember his off night at A1 and be glad he finished 6th and not worse.

His career isn't over and he will get his share of wins this season I am sure. The only thing surprising to me was the fact that it seemed when he was in 4th, that he quit charging and was happy maintaining his position. It wasn't until the Reed crash that tightened the racing up that he started charging again. Earlier in the race was not like Stewart. I wonder what was going on then.

I think James' strategy going into the season was to settle for 2nd's, 3rd's, 4th's, whatever....rather than crash out of races. And he was all set on settling for 4th, until Reed crashed and Reed and Dungey came back to him. Then with 2nd in his sights, and feeling confident on the bike, he tossed his strategy out the window (like the true racer he is) and tried to go faster than the guys right in front of him...which resulted in a freak accident crash...

Stewart is Stewart...he'll have moments of never before seen brilliance on a dirt bike...followed by moments of face palming stupidity. But isn't that what we love about James??? I'm cool with him taking all those chances on the likely chance we'll get to see something truly incredible and never before seen, happen on a dirt bike.

If he doesn't win by the 3rd race, you can turn out the lights as Dandy Don would say.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Big James. Obviously he got James where he is today. But, I just think it's funny to see one of the fastest riders in the world taking tips from a guy who has never ridden any where near that level especially with all the other resources he has. Although, I'm sure Big James is extremely knowledgeable from being there all those years. Still just kind of made me chuckle.

James: Hey since we are already making one off bodywork, do you think that we can make that Suzuki I bought look like a Yamaha?
Coy: Dont worry big guy, already got some guys on it.
