SX red number plate rule changing

The red plate will now be worn by the current points leader, not the defending champion. Looks like they're mirroring the rule that's been in use outdoors for a few years now.

Doesn't the defending champion HAVE to run the number 1 plate now? I thought they made that a requirement last year or something......

^^^^If that is the case, I don't see why they made the defending champ wear the red plate indoors anyways. Having the points leader wear it is how it should have been....

It could be luck that "number 1" plate holder got the 1, yes they should ride with it for the first race. He/she has to defend it and if they keep the points lead, then keep the red plate, but if not, it should move to the series current points leader, even if he/she was last year's 40th rider!!

Is this for both SX and Lites class? Because to my understanding it was just for lites... ?

I really like that idea. It is cool to have it switch hands week to week. Now all they need to do is get their collective heads out of the behinds ditch the permanent number nonsense.

Thats the way it should of been. Not sure why they had the red on the previous winner, they already had to run the number 1. Although I wouldnt mind them getting to keep there number and getting to run a different color to show they were previous champ. So you could have yellow for previous champ and then red for points leader. And a combo if they rider is the same. I like when they get to run their number. I think runnin the 1 should be an option. HOwever different strokes for different folks.

Don't kid yourself, Trey isn't winning the sx championship any time soon. My comment really wasn't meant as a knock on the number one plate. It was more of me against ditching the permanant numbers. With social media being as popular as it, and it isn't going away anytime soon, the riders should be able to keep their numbers. Mainstream sports, the athletes keep their numbers their entire career if they like. Can you imagine if the NFL gave new numbers to each qb every year based on their performance from the prior year?
