If you are buying used I would go with a Honda. Th new 09 bikes will be out soon and you will be able to save on 08 models that have not sold yet if you are thinking of other brands.

I like the best dealer option also. But I will add, find the one that feels the best to sit on. I did that last year with and ended up with a KLX 450R, wanted a push button for Baja. I already have a good dealer, so I went in and had the guys hold them up while I sat on them for awhile. It fit me the best. No regrets. They had Blue,Red and Green.

Yamaha is the most reliable. Suzuki has clutch issues. Kaw is pretty good like the Yam. Hondas go through valves unless you pony up some money and get the head done right away.

just sayin if you want the truth.

RM250 or YZ250, cheaper and legal.

dealer support is HUGE.

I prefer Kawasaki for their support in grassroots racing.

We've got over 80 hrs on a 07 RMZ250. We did have 2-3 broken clutch plates last year, but after updating with '08 clutch parts we've had zero clutch issues.

Checked valves at 20-40-60 hrs and they have and are still in spec.

Have done top end twice, usually starts on 2-3 kick.

Honda's do have valve issues, ever notice how many Honda's you see being bump started?

Everyone I know with Yamaha's and Kawi's have no complaints, other than the usual maintenance, which is more involved on all of the thumpers.

Can't say anything about the orange bikes, other than I heard they're fast as hell, but don't like to turn to well.

Id say a Honda 250F to me they're the best 250F out hands down, but to each his own. Ive had really good luck with my Honda's. I normally only replace wear items on my bikes and rebuild them every 10-15 hrs (not because something went wrong, just to keep it fresh)

Had an 05 and an 06. The 05 never needed a shim for 1 year of hard riding. Then the valves started to sink. I put in new valves and springs and no problemo, good as new. That bike is now on it's 3rd owner and still going strong almost 4 years later.

The 06 I had for 1 year and the clearance never changed. Don't know where it's at now. Probably still going.
