They can let er rip and we can enjoy the racing.
On the other hand, a combined race could be interesting...races that serve both GP and National points. It'll never happen, but it would most likely be the only way to bring a crowd to an American GP.
Again, this would really only help the GP series, which doesn't seem to be desirable. The national series and the Gp series are already rivals for the "best in the world," and the "deepest field of riders."
Business usually isn't a game of giving handouts like that, unless it's for charity.
I agree though about combining the ace,any proper fan would want to see the riders that were there, race each other,in a proper format in their usual respective classes (not the MXdN mix-mash),a proper Trans-am race, the drunken rednecks on the other hand would only know some of the AMA riders, pointless exercise really,I can't see either side gaining too much, nice though though
They admitted it after the GH thing, something about "miscalculating the American public."
IMO, it's their duty, as holders of the license to run and showcase the sport around the globe, to not only
"go where none have gone before", but to also showcase their product to one of the biggest consumers of dirtbikes.
But hey, if they can't figure it out, so be it.
The only way they could 'figure it out' would be to reshuffle the entire GP and MXdN calendar to a more preferable date (though I don't think there was a better one), drop the admission price especially for American fans AND lure American based riders with prize money. And still few would turn up because of the negative mindset that has sadly evolved among American Motocross fans towards the GPs - which is partly thanks to the loss of the USGP in the first place.

The money? Sure, it's an issue. But if a guy really want's to do something here, a hundred bucks ain't gonna stop them.
What really hurt them, imo, was the attitude Y/S displayed in their bid to buy the AMA series.
Insults and arrogance don't sell here.
The Glen Helen thing was fallout from that.
The desNations at Budds showed there's interest here for sure.
As far as prize money and American riders running, why even bother?
You have great riders, a great show, why insist on American rider.participation?
Can Gussipie not find a way to showcase his product without the crutch of AMA involvement?
Apparently not.
It has nothing to do with the fact that the US Nationals have a deeper field then the GPs, more riders, and an actual purse, and the possibility that some local kid can eat his wheaties and have an awesome day.
It also might have somthing to do with the fact that the MX Promoters group actually do work together as an organization rather than being run by one guy with a reputation for ass- raping every body he deals with over here.
What advantage would there be for an American promoter to host a GP as part of their national weekend? Even if it increased their turnout by the total that showed up at Glen Helen it wouldn't make it worth the sponsor conflicts, show money, and hassle of dealing with Youthstream, who would only desparately try to figure out some way to get their hand deeper into the cookie jar.
Youthstream is running back to the continent with it's tail between it's legs. It will be some time before they try to weasel their way into the American market with a GP again.
Regardless of what's gone on with Youthstream,I'm not sure that would stop a regular spectator from going?
My question is....... Why/how did Unadilla draw such a crowd at the GP?
where riders from north and south meet to set the record straight, a regional if you may).
Unidilla, was there also, and it was, as usual, wild. That place, I dunno, something special about that place.
The history, so many have gone for so long, the stories. If you ever went, you look back and kinda smile,
if you never went, hearing all that stuff, you wanna go.
I know there was a lot going on at the time, but I was shocked with the Glen Helen turnout also.
I always loved the atmosphere of the Trans Am and the GP's.
One year a bunch of us rented 3 motorhomes, all the girlfriends went, guys that never rode went.
We trashed those things with so much mud I was shocked we wern't sued. I still hear about it when meeting up with
the old gang.
The Hill was a menace, yes, but a blast.
