Pretty cool little two-page exploded view of RV's 450 in the latest ESPN - The Magazine. Pages 26-27.

Couldn't find it online to show you, sorry. They claim each of his eight (8) bikes costs $43.899.00 each.

1 RACE bike (?)

6 Practice Bikes

1 Testing.

Good shtuff.

They probably didn't factor in the graphics and hi-zoot, ultra-trick, factory unobtainium water-pump cover.

* Lotsa rumors tripling in that RV's Monster Energy Vegas race bike may have been the trickest ever >?

$150 grand?

Yeah that's probably just in parts. Anyone who's ever watched a custom car be built will tell you the parts are usually 1/2 to 1/3 of the final price after labor. My guess is that bike is probably closer to $100 or 125.

I can tell you from experience kawi cuts corners. I would be interested to see what a factory Honda costs to build....Id bet around $75,000. I beleive RC left kawi cause he felt there bikes wernt as good as others. I know Villopoto killed it this year on them but He would have done the same on any bike.

What was better for that race than what they ran all year...besides it being a 2012?

Said in the new RacerX that their were no bike restrictions at the MEC and the bike could more or less be "works". They didnt exactly say that Kawi took advantage of the rule though so anyones guess

seem to remember a lot more KX's winning championships on four strokes in both classes than factory HOnda's in the last few years, sometimes spending the most money does not always mean building a better bike,

The electronics used today on these EFI bikes would make your head spin.

I'm sure that traction control he was running at the MEC cost a pretty penny to develop.

The dfference between his MEC bike and supercross bike wouldnt be to noticable. MEC allowed the teams to NOT have to use production rule that the AMA supercross and motocross series enforce. His bike could have been a ton lighter than aloud in supercross or motocross and different components motor wise and exhaust wise (sound restrictions, like grants 250f when MC had the one off supercross race). Even the fuel, frame etc.

I guarantee that the MEC bikes were the same stuff they use for MX late 2011 and SX 2012 and nothing too out of the ordinary.

Why design, develop and test parts for a one-off race?

Aloud really?

typically here is how it breaks down....

1 SX bike. This is the full on, everything you can think of, hand massaged, built, unobtainiumed. (talking drilled washers, ti everywhere, magnesium trickery, works tranny thats been hand massaged including engine work that would blow your mind, electronics 2 or 3 people in the world have access to)

1 SX test bike. This is a full on second to the above but with data acquision gear.

the practice bikes, you will see a works tranny in it, motor work to a degree. You wont see mag hubs, but built wheel sets. You wont see ti everywhere, except in places it was needed for safety. Mag you wont see unless its needed. Stock revalved and sprung sticks and shock. Triple clamps to mirror his SX weapon but made of Alum instead of mag. You wont see drilled washers and exotic cases. But his practice bike would be right on par with any 15-20 guy on a satelite team. And he will probably go thru a bike a month. and this includes having that bike rebuilt at least once a week if not every other day.

(all of this is when talking about a guy like RV, Dung, JS, Reed)

The level the top 5 play at will blow your mind. There is a reason for it too. Its not because tthe can afford it, its because they have to! Personal SX track built, then upkeep on said track, a practice bike mechanic that works his butt off. I can easily see a 30k nut every month for SX just to be on that level. And thats not counting bikes, just in track and maint for the track and bike.

I'm with u. Their practice bikes have exact same suspension as their race bike. Thats how they practice and test the bikes....

I agree that the practice bikes have detuned motors and none of the fancy lightening but the suspension is necessary

Really, did he win every race in a season? to win a pro AMA moto is good, to win a race great, to win a series makes you a champion but I think it takes more than that to get fastest man on the planet or GOAT IMHO of course. He will be the man to beat. If he can dominate James in both SX and MX, I will say he is faster than the fastest man on the planet.

for their at home practice bike, yes. you will see the odd exception here or there on rare occasion, but full on, hand built, unobtainium parts, very very rare. Stock body, revalved internals made of stock material, aftermarket springs, with their race bike fluid, maybe a larger shaft.... basically what we all could go buy. If they are at the test track, they are on the full on stuff. At home, nope.

Ask around. As far as motors, they wont have hand massaged heads ect, but they for sure arent detuned as much as you would think. stock components that are more a "what mitch makes" flavor, stock electronics but with different settings ect.

You wont see the lightened up cranks, or lighter pistons, exotic cases. Those are more prone to wear and getting out of tolerance.

you guys have to understand, alot of what makes the "factory suspension" isnt valving specs, or exotic metals. What makes factory suspension is the incredibly tight tolerances and its brand new every saturday. To get it that way, the wear rate is insane and after 40 laps on a sx track, its time to freshen up and get the tolerances back. What they use on race day could not survive 5 days of riding without failure.

Mind blowing, but ask around, its true.

Largely true for most team guys, but the elite top 5 guys are not practicing on revalved stock units.

A stock CRF450 uses KYB SSS components. Take a look at a Reed video where he's riding at home and tell me again that the works Showa unit you see is a stock fork.
