"...no more live-streaming is the bigger step backwards..." so even DC admits is a step backwards.




AMA live timing can't even keep up, I can already guess how live streaming HD video will be !

Are the necessary NETWORK infrastructure upgrades being implemented???

So, new member, joined today, just so I could comment on how very, very incredibly pissed I am about this "NEW" TV arrangement. I live in Canada in the Northwest. My friends and I are all addicted to MOTO and last year we would watch the live feed on Allisports and catch second 450 motos on either Speed or NBC (except the cartoon show, it was supposed to be soccer) and 250s next day or once in a while same day on Speed. So now we get 3 shows a year as long as King 5 decides to show cartoons instead. DC said that the international audience was important, but ALL his neighbours to the North just got completely FFFFF'D We can't get any better up here unless we tee up satellite service a US provider with a PO box and payments in the US.
WOW! Blown away and really, really disappointed.

MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports announce today the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship will enjoy exclusive coverage across NBC Sports, SPEED and FUEL TV, with 60 hours of original programming, including 28 hours of live coverage. The domestic broadcasts will reach more than 120 million viewers across the three networks.

Here is a portion of the PR for '12.

The broadcast partnership will feature three live hours on NBC Sports and 21 hours of race programming on the NBC Sports Network, with 11 hours live.

So... 60 hours in '11 and 24 hours in '12. 28 hours of live coverage in '11 is more than the total coverage in '12.

This means we get 60% less tv coverage in '12 than in '11 on a network that reaches fewer homes. How is this good for sponsors, fans, riders, etc?

wow.....This is the reason why, i think SX/MX should make there own damn channel like, NHL Network, MLB Network, NFL network etc.. shit even golf and hunting have there own channels..

ed note: ( i do not know how much money or what it takes to do this, so dont take it it too seriously)

I'm not happy with 1st moto's not being on FUEL anymore, but I reckon NBC probably didn't leave much room for negotiation considering they bought alli. I'm sure DC has a good plan, he seems to have the best interest of the fans and the sport at heart.

It's not as if DC or anyone at MXSports would want to take a step backwards, so I'm sure this is the best they could do given the circumstances.

Hopefully MX can put up some solid numbers and get a bigger and better package for 2013.

i'm pretty happy.... means i can actually watch all the motos wherever i am, nothing better than being at a GP on qualifying day, finishing off at the track and then watching the AMA in the press room

now if Davey could just tell FELD about this whole "internets" thing...

thanks for securing me some dirt bike watchin' for next year on the HD machine. been loving these motosickles since Joel was stuffin' Torsten and guys like you and your Mom and Dad workin' your asses off for me to sit and cheer on Trey41 is just a great thing. a great thing indeed.

Bad decision, NBC sucks badly. In fact I erased all the DVR'd races I had that were shown on NBC once the re-airs were recorded on Fuel.
MX Sports has brought the series from having a one week delay broadcast in 2008, to FREE live webcasts of moto 1's and live or same day television coverage on moto 2. Thats good progress if you ask me. Kudos to them and good luck in 2012!

Agreed with this. This just pissed off a bunch of hardcore fans that never miss a moto even when were racing all weekend. The statement of having a great 2011 of coverage means LEAVE IT THE WAY IT WAS IF YOU WANT CONTINUED SUCCESS! Nothing pisses off me and many others like me than when races are shown as highlights (Ie, the amateur races @ monster cup, I looked forward more to that than the pros). With the other guy's statement about motocross being a backwoods lawn mower event on billy bob's ranch that the whole town shut down on saturday for, that's a much better situation than trying to make it as popular as baseball, football. The fact that not many understand our sport is what makes it awesome, let's keep it that way. I own a business and I'm more profit driven than most, but trying to make motocross mainstream for money (what other reasons are there?!? Look at Fox & Alpinestars clothes at the local mall, I'll never buy anything from them.) is ridiculous.

I appreciate the feedback, both positive and not-so-positive. The global audience does matter, which is a big reason why so many international stars end up here now. We were fortunate to have two competing networks willing to share the coverage of each race (which people complained in letters and emails was like watching half a football game on one network and then having it switch to another). Now we're in one network family, NBC Sports, and our common goal is to expand the coverage as soon as possible, while continuing to stream live and free online.

Motocross is hard to broadcast -- maybe the hardest sport of all, given the size and location of tracks, as well as the five-hours-long formats. The situation will never be perfect, but we'll never stop trying.

Maybe the 60% reduction in TV coverage for '12 is indeed due to the switch to a new network and that network has Olympic coverage obligations and they just can't show more moto. And maybe '13 will bring more coverage... but we will have to wait a year to know.

Until then, we can only comment on what we are getting for '12, and what we (fans, riders, sponsors) are getting is screwed.

TV coverage in '12 brings a 60% reduction in total coverage, less total coverage than live coverage in '11, and likely a majority of coverage in the form of highlight shows. Doing the math, we will NOT SEE more than half of all laps completed. My guess is, because the 450s will get the majority of coverage, we will only see ~25% of all laps turned in the 250 class.

And for all of you who say, "be happy with what we are getting," or, "10 years ago we didn't have any live coverage," then you must be content with mediocrity, regression and complacency... and if you are, then too bad for you... having these attributes is shameful.
