Its sometimes shameful the way this sport conducts itself with the media/press sometimes media guys poke a little and get repremanded so the next time they touch on the subject you can clearly see the difference in their reporting.....IF this sport ever did become mainstream some (not all) of these "reporters" would be scoffed at, if say espn or any other sports juggernauts took interest in this cottage industry they would have A LOT to talk about somehow they get the story and report it without fear of being banned by MLB or a specific polayer......Good bad or indifferent fans like to hear about things that go on behind the scenes, which is attributed to intense popularity of the pulp show, fans WANT to hear about things other than the race ....most of us already saw the race, I look forward to each and every show......I am equally frustrated with DMG regarding the lack of accountability some reporters hold with fear of being banned from the sport. Its painfully easy to see them dancing around of ANYTHING other than disney-esque stories that are put out ...."Someone did something that is gonna turn the world upside down.....BUT I cant say anything"....."I know what happened....BUT I cant say anything" I am not blaming the media 100% but the industy as a whole is just as bad.....banning reporters because of something they said makes them not report the real story so they can continue to do their job it goes hand in hand
I for one wish the sport was more open and accessble to the fans and I it doesnt ALWAYS have to be about a riders dirty laundry or an industry guy that did something to someone or someone got scewed over money" There is plenty to report that doesnt have to be bad but there are things that are swept under the rug that we as fans would like to hear.

But I have to admit - I liked it. Friday Night Smackdown was a good show.
Why was this show taken off the air? And by whom?
Although I loved the way they named names - there is no way a show like this could last, it is based completely on hearsay and could end up to be very damaging for some possibly innocent people. Spouting off rumors as if they are fact does not make them fact.
When you publicly name names you have to be ready for some backlash - because it will come.

When it was all said and done, listening to those shows and seeing the baseball bat spectacle made me realize how backwoods and trashy this sport must look to the average Joe. And I still couldn't find the clip. Sad times to be a true moto fan.
Before you tell me that the dude wasn't seeking publicity for the bat incident, go back and look at his twitter. He was blowing up espn trying to tell them the story. Then, to sit his two daughters in front of a camera and portray them as victims was disgusting. Those girls didn't deserve that. If he wasn't looking for anything then please explain that.
1. Stop worrying about the lack of "real dirt" reporting from the regulars. It's not going to change. If you want to see inside pics and read decent interviews, these require some kind of trust between people in the sport and the reporter. You can't expect regular reporters to write about who bangs whose chic or whose trainer knows "PEDs" and then expect things to stay normal.
If you want to bitch about media, consider that the same company that runs the nats is also a mag publisher, website, and is in the middle of everything, and most of you are chicken to admit it that is seriously fucked up. Yer scared to. Yer bigger chickens than the reporters!
2. Stop worrying about PEDs. They exist. They work. They make sense if done right. They are a problem if done wrong. Don't expect media to write about whose trainer knows what.
Note that the Epstein Barr epidemic went away about the same time trainers from cycling appeared. It's not rocket science people. Riders that do their PEDs (like testosterone) right are the smart ones. They are doing these things to battle fatigue from long seasons as much as they are for performance. As long as they don't overdo it, they will be healthier in the long run, and it's not hurting anyone.
Don't expect top riders to do long seasons, train all year, and wear themselves out and not do anything about it. It's too bad that the public can't handle the truth, but that's the way it is. It won't change.
Reporters in EVERY sport must walk the line with athletes between getting the scoop and having a working relationship with the athlete. It's part of the job.
Steve, it's five years later and I still don't see why you make such a big deal about DC running RX and MXS. Personal problem?
Every pro sport employs PR firms and many produce their own media. Every reputable MX media outlet is allowed to report on the races, take pictures, and get interviews. Specifically, what problem do you have with it?
If you don't see the problem, you don't know much and I cant help you anyway. Maybe you are just scared to think about it.
" Reporters in EVERY sport must walk the line"....... true that, but keep in mind, other Pro sports like stick and ball are REQUIRED to allow media access to their locker rooms, nobody is required to allow access to their race hauler or motorhome in moto, reports have to EARN that, consecquently, reporting trash about Jimmy MacGrath or Ricky Mooseknuckle won't get you very far in the pits.
