Awesome snaps here. Funny, the gear looks old, but the quality of the photos is better than half of the spray gun modern digi snaps we're used to seeing. Guess guys had to learn more & think more before pressing 'click'.

I was at that race. Cooper was riding the ragged edge the whole time!

Yeah, I remember his "40 year old" tour. Seemed like he was really old then, but now not so much, with Dowd still doing top tens at 46........

Possibly the most fan friendly rider ever.

I was at that race, and to the point someone made earlier about how he wasn't about going low over jumps. Well he was scrubbing the piss out of a jump before a corner. He'd launch off a bump before the face, flick it sideways inches over the top. Land near the bottom sideways set up for the turn.

First time any of us had seen anything like it.

I was heartbroken for him when he crashed. We was in a class by himself that day.

Thanks for the memories.

HEY JAY GOOD TO SEE YOU!

A few of those photos were taken from the STillwater 500 in Oklahoma. RR17 broke his leg there on 80s.

You guys remember when he clipped the banner on the finish line jump because he jumped so high.

Cooper was the opposite of scrub or stay low over jumps. Smile
Euro sx race in the winter of 87 or 88? Broke his leg and he was late starting the next years 125 title chase if i remember right, which cost him the title.

As the story goes, if i remember right...last lap and he was winning...he decided to hit a steeper part of the finish line jump which would launch him higher for better finish line antics....launched him right into the finish line banner and he fell 20 some odd feet straight down to break his femur.

I also remember reading an interview with then Honda team manager Roger DeCoster where he wasnt any too happy about Cooper trying a new line during the race and breaking his leg.

Is it possible to have a cooler helmet than Guy Cooper. I wish some pro would rock the two piece Arai for a race. I'd pay to see it.

I was always there with my cousin during that same time Jay. While he was racing I would be in the back field by the ponds riding an IT175 around. I remember Coop being there a couple times with a Van full of bikes.

What 250 SX was it that he almost one? I'm thinking San Jose 91-92-ish? Someone took him out right near the end of the race.
