I just just read that James Stewart still has the goal of beating MC's 72 Supercross main event wins... sorry Stewart fans but it ain't gonna happen! I know im going get bashed here but I just don't see it...

It will be very tough. If will take an average of 10 wins a year for the next 3 years of his JGR deal to do it. That is a tall order with the other contenders involved.

It will be great to see him try , but the math doesn't add up. I think he has 43 wins as of right now? MC had 72 wins.......so Stewart will have to win 29 more SX races to tie MC , and 30 to beat him. With 17 races per year , he would have to win 15 per year , over the next two years......losing only 4 races.

I don't see Stewart going past racing two more years......it's already been a pretty long career , as I think this season will be his 10th ( is that right?......already? ) year.......which for a lot of guys , that the time you retire.

Not saying it isn't possible over maybe a 3 - 4 year plan if he stays healthy , but the competition is going to get harder every year. It's not impossible , but there is a 99% chance it aint gonna happen. Either way , he'll go down in the record books as one of the best ever at SX.

Contrary to what you see or don't see happening, he CAN do it if he just takes it one race at a time. He does this, the wins will come and the championship will come.

If James would learn that 2nd or 3rd (on a bad night) is just as good as a win in the minds of his competitors, he will have a lot better chance. When you are basically a crash or win guy, you're not really in anyones heads, but if you are ALWAYS there winning and sniffing for the win, you start intimidating. THIS he could learn from Chad Reed.

It all depends on how long he races and how often he is hurt. What made MC and RC so amazing is how OFTEN they won and how they managed to stay injury free.

if RV wasnt in the mix i'd say its possible but RV will challenge him

RD can turn up the wick' when he has too as well

MC got 70 wins in 8 seasons, the last 2 in his ninth.

Stewart has 42 in 7 seasons with 17 races per year, I believe there were still only 15 when McGrath started, 16 when he finished.

I think McGrath can rest easy. I'll be surprised if Stewart breaks 50.

This seems more feasible to me, but the way hes talking im not sure he will be racing 2 wheels in 2015. If he can keep it on 2 wheels, and minimize injuries and race for more then 2 or 3 years i can see it happening. But in that small of a window with the competition that we have, i just dont see that happening.

That being said would anyone be that surprised to see Stewy win 10 races this year? I wouldn't... If anyone currently racing could do it it's going to be him.

Perhaps Stewart could go for the record of "Stewart going a whole season without taking half the field out through his stupidity". That one's probably going to be a lot tougher than eclipsing McGrath and his record.

He could do it, but he would have to buck the trends of the past few years. The thing is, nobody really knows if he has it in him to slow down to win more.

I don't see it happening with the way RV, Reed, and Canard have been riding. You could also add Dungey in there if he starts getting more aggressive.
