Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some help!!!
I'm from Ireland and myself and my boyfriend are hopefully emigrating to Australia some time in the new year. He is a pro mx rider here in Ireland and our move to Aus is some what MX related as he would like to improve his riding skills and branch out a bit in the MX world.. So what brings me here you ask... Could anyone maybe give us some info on MX in Aus? Anything which you may think could help us or steer us in the right direction would be much appreciated!!
From the research we have done NSW, VIC and QSLD seem like the hot spots for racing and events? We were considering a move to Perth but is doesnt seem as big there or is this the case?
He would be interested in particiapting in a few nationals also.
We just need to know where to establish ourselves, what the tracks are like, what the level of riders are like, what events are held in different areas, when does the season kick off?!
I know I'm asking for alot of information but ANY help at all would be very, very helpful!!! And if ye think we need to know anything that maybe of interest to us please do let me know.

austrailia seems like the ideal place to escape too after america collapses
Queensland events are pretty much held from brisbane north and the New South Wales are closer to Sydney. There are smaller series in between those but the bigger events are around those cities
i did most of my riding in Queensland and most of the tracks are hard pack, a lot like the west coast tracks in the US. its pretty dry here.
season kicks off around February i think. Sunshine State Motocross Series is one of the bigger series in Queensland.
the only problem with perth is it is a long way from the rest of the country. if you want to make a go of it go to the east coast and try to base yourself near a city

I reckon on the coast in the middle of NSW would be the best palce as you would be central to most of the east coast races but the living cost in Sydney are the most $$$ in Aust so maybe a rural area of NSW?
Victoria has the most variety in weather and riding terrain and coming from Ireland would would find the weather a bit more bareable compared to QLD, WA or NSW.
But its all good over here, no GFC problems cutting team numbers
they basically string from canberra to brisbane, all close to the
south eastern coast. western australians wish big mx got close to them.
The mx scene is good here but we dont get the national rounds or sx rounds due to it being a 3 day drive to get here!
Perth is beautiful and the weather is arguably the best in Au but like I said, its so far from the East coast!, The tracks are mainly sand around the Perth area but become very hard packed the further inland or north you go!
If it was me and employment wasnt a real issue then Qld or NSW would be me! Plenty of other sports to watch, great weather and beach's
Just fly in, hire a camper and travel then make a decision, great way to see the place and make a decision after that.

Big bonus in WA though is there are plenty of places to ride from what I have seen and there is a lot of racing over there with a few big events throughout the year.
If you are looking to move over and buy land and have your own track, NSW would be a nice central location, plenty of our top riders come out of NSW, plenty of private tracks in rural NSW. Vic is along the same line though they look to have more public tracks open on weekends and throughout the week.
If you are looking at just a suburban house and will rely on a mixture of private and public tracks, Queensland is your best bet for sure, plenty of tracks open throughout the week, and plenty of National calibre riders also live around Queensland. Any where from just outside Brisband, the Gold Coast or the Sunshine coast.
Im from South Australia, nice quiet state, a few tracks open, plenty of land if you were looking at buying land for your own track, downside is the racing scene over in SA is lite on, some good talented riders just not the depth of other states.
If your serious about racing and that is your primary reason for coming down under, no choice but the Eastern Seaboard, starting from Southern Queensland and your #1 destination
The guts of it is:
-less travel
-less summer crazy heat
-Just as fast, if not faster riders in Mx
-Pretty good medical system
-LOTS of tracks / riding areas
Faster riders ? All your fastest riders race in Australia
I was thinking surburban Sydney but when I look at properties I'm like a lost puppy because I have no idea where these locations are etc etc. We would like to be close enough to the city, obviously close enough to MX tracks and maybe even possibly close to a beach.... Are we asking for too much?! LOL
I know this is outside the MX spectrum but what is work like in the Sydney area at the moment? Or even Brisbane? We will both be looking for work when we arrive. Perth was our main option work wise at the beginning when we decided to move to Aus as we've heard how much work is in Perth.
We haven’t actually thought about or considered NZ.. I was thinking that maybe it would nice to travel it someday, but never thought about the MX aspect. Is it as big in NZ as it is in Aus yea?

There are quite a few BIG MONEY open events which often attract interstate and national riders. Perth weather is [arguably] better than the rest of the country, we have a lot of clubs to choose from with tracks on a variety of surfaces from hard pack to deep, bottomless sand. We only have one arenacross track though.
Employment opportunities are excellent here too.

Asking what work is like is a bit hard because it depends what you do! But the economy down here hasn't been hit like the rest of the world at all so probably better than Ireland the UK in general!
Hang on there kiwi, just 'cause you guys won a little footy carnival don't mean ya can claim to be faster motocross riders too. Well, maybe some of your riders are a little faster - the number 101 comes to mind.
And yeah, congratulations on the Rugby World Cup - mind you, I thought the All Blacks were gonna let France pinch it in the last minute.

As other have said though employment opportunities depend on what you're qualified to do and what you're looking for.
But getting back to our Irish friend, I hadnt thought of the NZ option, but that is a good one, less travel to meetings cause NZ is tiny compared to aust but their MX scene is equal to ours it seems and their $$ is alot lower than ours at the moment. It would be worth checking out the exchange rates cause it could make a big difference, the aussie $$ is at one of its highest levels ever ( it was higher than the greenback for awhile there) at the moment.

Im based an hour north of sydney and tend to travel between Sydney and upper coast a fair bit.
I got a few connections with MX around NSW.
Most race days are on sundays here and run once a month if you wanted to check out some club days. few decent bike shops around sydney as well but nothing crazy like in America.
but for overall tourist kind of things, there is heaps of hidden gems around and all within day trips.
Beaches and pubs are te biggest things here, and you'll find majority of the people enjoy a beer and a gamble hahah

East Coast is defiantly a larger population and majority of MX events are located.
Im in NSW but the QLD coast lien is an amazing place.
Moss Institute would be your best bet to reach out too.
Greg has been doing it for many years, was the foundation for the lawrence boys and majority of the top riders who are now over seas.
and most of our tracks are groomed deep and dry out fast.

there is 3 mx tracks around hunter valley that put on some good racing. Most popular Track at the moment is "Cessnock MX". i live an hour to sydney and hour to hunter. so happy to help.
