Scale from 0 to 100.

0 = No way, not ever, for any reason
100 = yes for anyone, any time, any where.

As much as I am against abortion from a humanitarian standpoint I don't think government should be in the business of deciding.

It is not a decision my wife or I would choose, but as said above it's not the government's place to decide and it's the woman's body.
The inevitable fight in this thread will be "life" and when life begins. A one week old fetus cannot survive outside of the host regardless of all that medicine and science has to offer, therefore it is a part of the host and not individual "life."
Again, abortion is not the path my wife or I would take, but that's none of the government's business.

Do they perform abortions on viable fetuses?

I think if someone is considering abortion, they should go to a class that explain everything,EVERYTHING, and they should talk to woman who have gone throug it and let the see first hand the emotional toll it will put them through.

My wife had one 18 years ago, not a day goes by she doesnt feel either remorse or guilt. Its a little easier for the man, but even then its sometimes hard not to think about it

Oh and yes, now that I know the repercussions of it and am educated on it, I am 100% against it.

That I believe should not be legal. That should be apparent by by my initial reply. Once a fetus reaches a point where it can survive outside the womb, with all that science and medicine has to offer, it is then viable and capable of sustaining life outside of the host.

Abortion should be a legal option until the fetus reaches the age of 18 years.

Abortion should be legal before the pregnancy has gone too far. There has to be strict laws around it, such things need to be decided by government, it should not be up to individuals like doctors or people in general for that matter do decide if and when. I think it would be wrong for a woman to decide to do an abortion on a healthy baby in the eight month just because it is her body.

100 = no one should tell me what I can do to my body, just like if I am dying I want to be able to call a doctor like Kevorkian to help me !! It's my body, not yours not the governments, mine.

I agree. Might as well give the lil' bugger picker a chance and see if they are going to turn into someone cool or just a waste of oxygen and other natural resources. How'd ya like that hangin' over your head thru your teenage years? The knowledge that your parents hands are hovering over the big abort button. I bet kids would be much more respectful, thoughtful and would have really good study habits.. Smile

I agree that you can't tell someone what they can and can't do with their own body, but in the case of a baby, a separate identity.... it's another life all on it's own, with it's own rights imo.

I'm not absolutely against abortion under all circumstances - there are situations where it may be right to abort. But I'm against this easy going culture we have now where abortion is almost seen as "no big deal". Get pregnant multiple times and then abort as if it's nothing, just because it suits a lifestyle. I'm against that.

Emotive subject for sure. 20 - 30.

Your body is secondary in a case where you are eight months pregnant though, since the kid have a father too, so there are kind of three people involved in such situation. If women and men should have equal rights, they should have equal rights.

Seriously, no one has abortions at 8 months, do your research it's the first trimester. Sheesh come on that's not right, I agree.

That is because it is regulated and illegal, hard to find doctors that will do it. If it was legal or not regulated and up to the individual there would be people doing it.

Late termination of pregnancy

"United States: In 2003, from data collected in those areas that sufficiently reported gestational age, it was found that 6.2% of abortions were conducted from 13 to 15 weeks, 4.2% from 16 to 20 weeks, and 1.4% at or after 21 weeks.[12] Because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's annual study on abortion statistics does not calculate the exact gestational age for abortions performed past the 20th week, there are no precise data for the number of abortions performed after viability.[12] In 1997, the Guttmacher Institute estimated the number of abortions in the U.S. past 24 weeks to be 0.08%, or approximately 1,032 per year

its a grotesque form of birth control.

but the bigger picture is, that if its something that keeps you up at nite, youre not seeing the forest from the trees. there are much bigger atrocities going on in the world.

the same people who are against abortion for the sake of "life" as if it is something sacred, are the same bible thumpers who are ok with religious crusades (past and present) where many innocent people die.

i really dont care what people believe. just so long as is there is some continuity or consistency in their stances. at that point is when we can begin to discuss a issue, until then, its just asinine. "life" and ones value of it, cannot be conditional.

for those who are against abortion.....i'd love to hear what there stance on the food industry is, in particular, the torturous and down right inhumane way in which we raise pigs for food. no consistency in logic. but truly, i believe these debates are meant to be set up this way. where leftist and rightist idealisms are never consistent and always meant to be in contradictory/conflict with themselves. its the perfect form of "divide and conquer" of the masses in a supposed republic. ingenious really.

a lot of this discussion, at its root, comes down to the definition of "life" and the "freedom to choose". i think many of us are misguided as to just how much "free will" we, as humans, actually have. when you factor in genetics and living conditions outside of a persons control, and look at the entire body of work of a human being......it is fairly obvious we have much less control over our "lives" than we think. we are no less instinctual and impulse driven than any other animal on this planet. food for thought.

this discussion, no matter how rational and objective we try to keep it, is very deep and messy.

ok you and I are not on the same page, I am talking about the clowns who want to take my rights away all together, no abortions, I don't mind the rules they have in place now, just leave them the fuck alone and fix the damn economy. Don't fuck with my first trimester or who I want to marry (I love men by the way), but you have no right over these, these are MY RIGHTS.

I think we are on the same page, I think we more or less totally agree, the only difference is that I think it is important that it is regulated, but in a sane way. Not regulated in the way that they make abortion illegal. So in a way your body needs to be the government´s.

I guess that blob inside you that has a heart beat and a functional brain would say the same thing huh? Is it the babies fault that its parents are to stupid to pullout?

Morally?...no. My personal opinion is that I dont think its right. I feel as though there should be a pretty damn good reason as to why you have to (i.e. mothers safety, other atrocities that have happen), not because its merely "inconvienient" or "bad timing." I do however think that nobody can force a woman not to...Her morals may be different than my morals, but who are we to judge in the end.

UT I am not talking about using it for birth control, I am with ya on that but under other circumstances it's my right, not yours or the govt's. Birth control should be taught to all guys & girls, it shouldn't be so taboo. You can't think that kids aren't having sex, that's shear stupidity on anyone's part, teach them and teach them well. Sweden i think I read has the lowest teen pregnancy, they start young and teach them well.
