Is it RacerX - DC?
is it Vital - GuyB?
Is it TWMX - Maeda?
Is it Motocross.com - Nerd?
Is it Pulp - Steve?
Is it MXA.com?
Who will get the JS7, CR22 and other details first?
How competitive is it among these guys to get the scoup out first and what does it mean for them and their respective sites?

Heck, you're Canadian, so I guess you don't get it unless it's from Steve!
JK!!!!!!
From RacerX Racerhead:
And Ryan Dungey has change swirling all around him, yet he did his job too, earning his third straight win to give him a 3-0 record. Dungey now moves over to KTM but back in with Roger DeCoster and Ian Harrison. What he's losing, though, is a proven motorcycle in the Rockstar/Makita Suzuki and the most successful mechanic in the history of the sport, Mike Gosselaar. More on that later.

James Stewart to JGR seems like it’s chugging along nicely and should get done. And it should be on Suzukis as well, with Stewart doing a full season of supercross and motocross.
- Everyone’s favorite Summercross winner, Tim Ferry, has been reunited with Trey Canard in a training/coaching capacity. Ferry had gone over to L&M to test for them but jumped back to Canard for the upcoming season. Ferry and his old trainer Dean Golich will help to keep Trey from going nuts and eating all the bonbons in the Honda truck.
- Chad Reed still hasn’t decided on a bike for the upcoming season, but he should know real soon what he’s going to do on that end. He has hired Mike Gosselaar to be his crew chief over there at TwoTwo Motorsports. I'm guessing the bike is red (and good for you, Reedy, that first-moto was kick-ass in France).
- I think Andrew Short will end up back at KTM as Ryan Dungey’s teammate (rumors have it that Dungey is over in Austria right now riding and getting acquainted with all his new KTM friends) or he’ll go to the Larry Brooks/Jeremy McGrath Honda team, but I would bet on KTM once again. Oh and on a 450, not a 350.
- Darryn Durham is indeed going to Pro Circuit next year, and he’s already instilled himself as the heavy favorite in the “I don’t know, man, I saw him at the test track and he’s going to surprise” sweepstakes.
- I think Metcalfe may just be back under a standalone Suzuki truck just like he was this year, once all this Suzuki-to-Yoshimura stuff works itself out.
I've seen the same stuff...
But my question is who gets the scoop first and why...
What does it do for their reputation and for their respective sites...
I'm not looking for scoop here, but the politics behind who gets what first and what is done with the info....
.
You guys have to have an idea on what is going on with Stewart, Reed, and Dungey. Even if nothing is confirmed I would still be interested to hear any information but you just do not see that. Do you guys really have no idea either?
Right now, I think people are waiting on sponsors to make decisions, or manufacturers are waiting on riders to make decisions. Then the next piece falls into place, etc.
Sometimes people will tell you directly what's up. Others (like James) are pretty far off of radar. I'm sure he expected things to be more wrapped up than they are a long time ago.
As for Dungey, after Pala I asked him directly what he had going on for 2012. He said something like, "Oh, you and those questions." He just couldn't say at the time.
Here's something I read a while back on USA Today about Danica Patrick, and how she was dealing with media regarding her change from Indycar to NASCAR.
Q: Is it a relief not to hear the same questions anymore about what you're doing next year?
A: Yeah, from a legal negotiation perspective, it's been a long road because there was only so much I could say. That'll be nice to be done with all that. It'll be nice to change the questions. I'm sure you're damn relieved as many other journalists are. You probably get sick of asking the same questions I would imagine. But God forbid, you don't ask the question one time, and that's the time I'm willing to answer it. So I feel very guilty because I continued to give the same boring answer. But I really couldn't do anything else. So as legally soon as I could, I did.
like the dungey case.....we all now that he is leaving suzuki, but his contract has a date set to be the last day he works for suzuki, until then he is contracted to them so ktm has to wait until that date to announce dungey signning.......
i guess its pretty much the same to all.......then all established media waits on the PRs so to respect that also and to not be on the bad side of them when news start to flow.....
I say this is the case on the Forum side, not the home page side...
After that, I'll hit the MXA site because they will sometimes comment on what I've already seen on Vital, but they have good tech stuff.
Then, I'll check out TWMX for any new videos I can watch on my iPhone. The other sites are not so accomodating...
I'll hit up RacerX for the politically correct postings before heading to Motocross.com, Cyclenews and some of the over seas sites if I have time.
In a nut shell, I come here first for my MX/SX fix...
How about you?
Those guys prob forget more than most of us know, or ever will know.
I
ive heard of one of the more prominent pit journo's refered to as "the pit snitch" more often than not. and mostly cause he's just doing his job.
the riders are a pain in the ass to deal with for the most part. the mechanics fuel the sentiment. and managers or agents only call when they need a favor. that, in short, about sums it up.
so because that is the environment that the media has to work in, they often walk on egg shells. this is a small industry. everyone knows everyone. it gets personal. say the wrong thing and a journo will get blackballed. and just cause a journo might have some dirt on a rider, doesnt mean that rider doesnt have some dirt on a journo....like i said, small industry.
so when considering the environment that has been fostered, what is to gain by breaking any sort of story? especially when a lot of the info the media gets is thru the rumor mill. its really hard for this sports media to get inside info "on the record".
i bet you someone like any of the guys you listed could take a pretty educated guess as to who will be where next year. but what really is their to gain from it? i dont think anyone is in the "news breaking" business. its about good race re-caps and great photography and product write-ups.
ask yourself, who broke the dungey to ktm story? i bet you cant name the site/publication that did. what happened was that "insiders" began to hear what dungeys demands were, and who was in the running. (nothing to gain for a journo by releasing that sort of info to the public. it would just screw up dungeys negotiations and make him even less accessible in the future).......then the deal happened, and the info traveled by word of mouth thru the same back door channels until it just became common knowledge.
by the time a magazine has "the scoop" and can print it or put it on their website........its already been hinted at and tip-toed around for too long and its not exactly "breaking news".
its a very similar situation with the whole bubba to suzuki deal. i think it was matthes who first hinted at it. but he will never fully get credit he deserves for breaking the story. because at the time, he was just revealing some good pit gossip, that has by chance, come to fruition. at the time there was no way anyone could have known the deal would go thru, but that would have been the time for it to be "breaking news". given the info circulating at the time, nobody in their right mind would have stated the rumors as fact.
i guess what im trying to say is that i dont think there is anything to gain by "breaking news". the politics and the way info is leaked just doesnt allow for it.
its pretty similar in F1, MotoGP, and other motorsports as well. its hard to get "breaking news". and while it probably pays to have it in F1 or MGP, those sports are much bigger and can afford to have a "anonymous" media. and that goes a long way in this case.

Another Rumor from deep inside the Stewart compound states James was willing to ride out his contract but before he did, he wanted a good test rider to ride the Yamaha, and the Suzuki. Stewart in a HUSH HUSH move went to the JGR facility and tested a Factory 450 within the last 2 weeks. Suzuki brought their rig and setup a bike and let him test it. Apparently James has been on the bike for about two weeks. Now, James is bringing his RedBull money on board at JGR and will let his team either sit or fold up. Yamaha's contract is with L&M and their rider, James name appears nowhere.
Now to his counterpart Skippy. Reed was angry with Honda becuase the McBrooks team gets first bid for factory parts at Honda? Word is, you Ozzies' get your wish, today or earlier this week Reed inked with Honda and will get to Lease any available factory parts they may need. So Reeds team will be RockStar Team22 racing.
Other rumors are, since Muscle Milk will no longer be with JGR, they have inked with Honda. San Manual have dropped Stewart because of his lawsuit, Brooks knows this and is trying to make a deal with them. This will be an interesting story to keep an eye on.
the suzuki rig was at JGR about a month ago if not more. and i know im not the only one who knew about it. i sat here and waited....and waited.....and waited.....for the news to drop, and it took forever. and it came from a member of the forum, not of the media. guyb doesnt have to break news to make his site relevant. he just has to provide a place for the gossip to funnel into. same with racerX, they provide that live twitter feed. other than that, its wait for the press release.
people knew of suzuki at jgr. and if i knew of it, the journo's had to have known of it i would think. yet the story wasnt put out in the open. and here's why....bubba to suzuki may be a done deal, but whether it will be a jgr suzuki or not has not been decided. and that affects whether jgr will be suzuki as well as the fact that yamaha hasnt given up yet in trying to keep jgr.
mcbrooks is still in limbo. as is L&M.
still too many unknowns at this point to "break a story" or "have a scoop" imo. again, nothing to gain by breaking rumors except maybe some egg on ur face.
Pit Row
im not trying to take a shot at any media member or any blog poster for that matter. im defending them. and for the record, i started typing my initial response in this thread prior to guyb's explanation. otherwise i never wouldve even weighed in.
and no blog for me. like i said earlier, if there was money in the mx "news breaking" business, someone would already be doing it. i dont consider myself an "insider" by any means, which is why if i hear something, then i figure plenty already know it, and if they arent releasing the info as "breaking news" there's probably a good reason why. i just like discussing moto, so i wait til i see it posted here first so then i can talk about it like any other fan.
usually when "insiders" post some quality shit on here, they get bashed anyways. its a no-win situation if you ask me.
matthes took a lot of shit when he first dropped the bubba/suzuki story.
eastflorida asked a question. im just trying to shed a lil light from my perspective.
Journalists don't confirm things. They report when other people confirm things.
I think there is pretty healthy flow of information- look at all the stuff we know about 2012 that has not been officially announced. In other words they are doing their jobs tracking down rumors, but they can't confirm something until the announcement comes out. It's crazy what we know about the 2012 teams only a couple weeks after the season ends.
The answer to the original post is NO ONE gets a scoop.
We get rumor and conjecture, and the proof comes when A1 rolls around and teams are listed. We are still trying to decipher what happened with L&M, Brooks, and James. Larry apparently had a sudden urge to visit his family fo........6 months. No scoop there. We know something about a Reed/L&M lawsuit, not much info there either.......No scoop.
Teams and riders have been known to limit access to those that step on the toes and nothing is worse for media outlets than having less access. I believe the GOAT even once threatened to kill Matthes, no? This sport's media on the whole needs to stop worrying about disrupting firendships and worrying more about doing their reporting thing.
His riddles/puzzles were also pretty entertaining.
Look at all the shit BDW got that time for posting those pics he took of a certain rider at the Honda test track.
Also from my understanding....something as simple & silly as this little picture below caused all involved including the photographer to be called into the principals office.
