Go to planetminis.com and thumpertalk.com and start looking. Several people have done various conversions of putting a playbike engine into a motocross bike chasis or installing a motocross bikes suspension on a playbike. I know that there are a couple conversions of putting CRF100 engines into CR85's. There are also several conversions where people have put the suspension of a KX85/KX100 onto a KLX125/DRZ125 (they are the same bike).

Do you have any more info on the klx? Im assuming by the sounds of it the frame will accept the trees & swingarm (therefore the rear shock? Did the rear master cylinder bracket have to be welded on?

It was built by a planetminis.com forum member called settintrendz. He's done several builds like the ones you inquired about.

I am pretty sure they offer a kit the includes templates for where and what to cut on the frame as wel as some pre-fab pieces.

Also.. want to say they sell a steel frame ready to go... but where's the fun in that!

I saw that they did, but they want way too much for it. $1500 just for a frame, mod air box, and pipe. I should be able to pick up the whole bike for that and start cuttin' and playin'

No problem. A lot of great info on planetminies and thumpertalk. It takes more work to mount a new engine in a motocross chasis as the frames have to be cut/welded but it should be pretty straightforward for a decent fabricator/welder.

Putting a XR 100 engine in a cr is cake. Pipe and air box is the biggest pain. Problem is it's still a XR 100 dog. You will have to dump mass$ into the engine and still get smoked by a mod klx or crf 150. My mildly breathed on 110 can hole shot Duane Browns trickest xr 130 or what ever it is.
I went the other route on my mid size pitbike. TTR 125 with yz 85 suspension.

You could always go this route:

The 150r pretty much made these things not worth it.

Kitaco stroker (150cc) kit for your xr100. The best/most reliable hp you can buy. And yes, you'll open your checkbook to buy it. The internal rotor ignition is nice as well. I have a CR/XR conversion as well, and it has a Powroll 150 stroker in it. The Kitaco is legions better.

If you build a stroker, just realize you're going to want to push start it whenever possible. If you don't, you'll be regularly replacing the kickstarter shaft.

You really have to decide what you want with these bikes. They're play bikes...I like taking them to the track every now and then to embarrass people on 250/450F's....but if you want fast, just buy yourself a CRF150R and stiffen up the suspension.

Yep, trying to go fast on a slow bike is a lot of fun. Especially on a small track. I currently have a CRF150r with reworked suspension. My son and I also share a KLX110 with suspension from a Pitster Pro X4. And if you don't want to do a build, you can just buy a Pitster Pro X4 or LXR.

Just wanted to mention that you may want to consider Kawasaki's new KLX140. It has a full cradle frame (a lot of big minis still have an open cradle frame that will stretch out when adults start jumping them), electric start and a KX85/KX100 forks/shock swap is pretty simple.

That looks WAY easier/cheaper than the XR/CR/KX route......very nice!

that service honda 250r swap is precisely how middle aged men put themselves out of work.
