What is your favorite lens for shooting MX? I am thinking of ordering a Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS. Right now I am shooting with a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS & a 50mm f/1.4.

This shot is with the 50mm but I want to get a little closer.

10.5mm F2.8 Nikon Fisheye and the 70-200VR. Although, I just bought a D3 so I might have to ditch the 10.5 for the 16mm fishy and get a teleconverter for the 70-200.

Not sure the 70-200 will have enough reach on a FF body.

That is a great lens. I was torn between that lens and a 1D MkIII. I went with the body, but I will probably add the 300mm to my kit next year. Right now I am using the 100-400mm for that range.

I'm saving up for a f2.8 L IS 70-200mm Canon lens for my 10D/ Right now, my 18-55mm is mostly what I shoot at the races.

Seems like the 300 f/2.8 is the fav. That is an amazing lens, but I was thinking I need to move closer to the action. Are you guys shooting mostly from the spectator area? Why such a long lens?

i love my 24-70 2.8 but its only good for on-track photos. anything from outside the track and i would go with a 70-200...

On the infield. There's a slew of them there. It is one of Canon sharpest lenses, great contrast, and focuses very fast. You just have to work around composition more than with a zoom.

I can't afford a 300 f2.8... hoping I can get good results with the 300 F4 IS. I use 70-200 F2.8 98% of the time.

Ok I'll play.

I really like my 70-200 2.8. I do think that its probably the most used lens in my bag. Its sharpness and versatility make it a must have for anyone seriously wanting to shoot great moto shots.

I also have the 24-70 L 2.8.. Its nice and I like it when I can find a place to use it. Its perfect for podiums.

My favorite tho is the 105 2.8 Macro. By far the sharpest lens in the bag. To bad its limited range makes it tough to ever use it.. But when I do get to use it its my favorite.

These days I'm into my 300 2.8 (my second or third) along with a 1.4 extender

Originally, my 70-200 2.8, then i liked my 100-300 f4, and now I'm a pretty big fan of my 50-135 2.8. Yea yea, I shoot Pentax! The lens is perfect for moto though, and super sharp. Just wish the zoom was a bit tighter.

What are you shooting these days, Paul?

Just some local MX and some architecture but I hardly ever use the 420mm for those projects.

Canon f2.8L 70-200... versatile, fast, and add a 1.4 tc and you have nearly the 300 (280) with f4.

I sold my 2 month old 300 2.8 and going back to 70-200 2.8.. The 300 was amazing with its sharpness and color but I need a more versatile lens and ive had best results with the 70-200 2.8.. If I ever go FF then I would go back to the 300mm but for now back to the work horse do it all lens.
I really like the 17-40 w/a also I use it on my second camera which is a 40D

Newfound appreciation for the 17-35mm F2.8 on a full frame body. I used it often at Budds and Dilla.

definatly need a 1.4 or 1.7X TC for the 70-200 now on an FX body.

Nikon makes a 200mm to 400mm F4 VR AFS zoom that I want to rent. Reviews say it is incredible, focus is as fast as the 300 and 400 primes, and it's optically wonderful too.

Might be a suitable alternative to the 300 F2.8, but it's about $5100 street price, I think the nikon 300 is about $4000.

I'd like to see some photo's from a 70-200 with a TC on it. Mine weren't so great.
