Got a little break from schoolwork yesterday and decided to load up with a few buddies from work and school and head out to Rio Bravo. DWhitt, Matt Schilliab, and I made the 2 hour trek from College Stationand got to put in some great motos. we got there around 12 and were on the track by 1. Track was a bit dry, but a blast to ride, as always. I spent most of the day trying to put in solid laps on my KX450 (see video below) and at the end of the day DWhitt invited me to ride his 2003 yz125, which he bought a week ago. I gladly accepted seeing as the 2003 yz125 was the first big bike I ever owned. Well, needless to say it takes quite a different riding style switching from a 450 to a 125 2smoker, and I was unable to make the transition before the bike blew . It was a scary moment coming off that roller and having the motor quit. I nearly face planted over the bars. The initial cut out scared the bejesus out of me, but I was much more unhappy when I realized I just blew my buddies new bike up. I guess the silver lining of the whole deal is I was able to capture it all on my Go Pro, so if you have a few minutes check out

And here is some footage (in HD) of the track on my KX450

X2. 125's are all about momentum, looked like you were coming to a stop in the corners

Seeing how he stated he came off a 450, I could see why there was a total lack of aggression in the corners, and keeping the bike in one gear

The fact that you revved the piss out of it just getting to the track on a cold motor, and then seemingly never shifting and revving this piss out of it everywhere, and cornering like a novice sure didnt help. On a side note this video perfectly demonstrate how 4 strokes make riders lazy

3 things.

1. sweet videos, track looks fun to ride. thanks for posting!
2. sounded like you were riding the 125 like a 4-stroke, lot of coasting and no shifting. not saying that blew it up for you, but just saying.
3. learn how to aim your helmet camera, it was way to high.

You may not be able to hear the shifting, but I was shifting, sometimes twice coming out of certain corners, but I'll admit I was over-revving the piss out of the bike. It wasn't intentional, I just couldn't get the hang of how short the gears were. As far as the cornering goes, The track was extremely dry, and I had no intention of wrecking my buddy's bike, nor sliding out in a turn of concrete, I was just trying to have some fun on the little 1two5.

Haha, yeah, He wore the tank to the track and never put his jersey on. It was only his 2nd time at a track and it was extremly hot. That is my Kx he is riding. It was his 125 that I blew up.

From the sound of the 125 when it let go, sounds like the ring broke or caught the powervalve.. Good news is its a 2 stroke and will be cheap to fix compared to grenading a 4 stroke.. I am betting the 125 has a ton of hours onj the top end.. You can hear the piston slap/vibration while you were riding it

look at the bright side... you blew up an inexpensive to re-build 125... now if he blows up your 450... totally different story.

also, friends don't let friends wear tank-top/jerseys. ever. even when drunk. now you know.

perfect video to show why kids should stay on a 125 and why a good 125 rider on a 4stroke will always beat a rider who has only ridden 4 strokes

If I got on your 4 stroke and tried to blow it up in a few laps, I could do that no problemo....

That bike was death rattling the entire time. I'm surprised it lasted 3 laps.

Was his friend OK after the 450 blew up? Did he do a Jake Moss Foopty-Loop over the bars when it Scatter Cranked?

Aggies are only good at shifting when it involves football conferences. Laughing

I thought the same thing, sounded like it was going to let loose from the start, his buddy let him ride it because he knew it was going to blow and then he might feel guilty and foot the bill.Wink In his defense it sounded bad as soon as he started it up.

What the hell is with that free rolling in and revving corner technique.

You might of been shifting some but lets say you shifted 10 times around one lap you actually should have shifted more like 100 times on that 125. I just pulled those numbers out of thin air as an example. You could hear the piston slap so it was bound to go regardless.
