All,

This is a fantastic video that really shows the closeness of 250 cc whether it is 2-stroke of 4-stroke. I would strongly urge DC and MX Sports to see this and continue to look into the cost of racing, etc... This is another great MXPTV video.

I am not a wacko pushing for one or the other side. Just thought it might be good to again consider for 2012 and beyond.

dang what a battle. The guy on the 2T did kinda get worked, however he was on a 2000-01 cr if im not mistaken. not bad for a guy on a bike a decade old.

Just a thought i am having does anyone that normaly rides a 4 stroke and Rides a 2 stroke for a few laps seem to miss the engine braking that the 4 stroke has?

Oh god yes! Four stroke engine braking is wonderful and is one of the things that makes riding and racing a 4T "easier" - that is unless you are at an elite level (I'm just guessing) and are really good at holding the brakes right at the traction limit.

At 2:30, I swear I saw the 250F out drag race the 250 2 stroke. All those in the know said that could never happen.....

I also saw different lines being taken. Would that bring an end to the "track was one lined" (although it's 50 feet wide) excuse?

just started riding a four stroke after riding a smoker for 3 years, so far, engine braking is my favorite part. Saved me a few times sunday where I probably would have been over the berm.

Performance aside, I think that video pretty much illustrates the noise issue. Compared to the four stroke, the two stroke's sound is barely there--almost subliminal. You could only hear it when the exhaust pipe was pointed towards the camera it seemed. Couldn't hear it over the four strokes otherwise.

Find me a 4stroke from that era that still could hang with those guys...

But still, in terms of racing at the highest levels (B class and up), 4strokes hold an advantage in terms of traction that's hard to overcome with sheer horsepower and flickability.

Great point about the fact that different lines would form on the track. That would be awesome.

The one thing I think people or the powerful people ignore with this is... The factory teams are going to race what they sell...

Honda aint gonna turn up with a brand new 250 2 smoke for this class for a lot of years if they were allowed to race...

It would just help the privateers...

I reckond let em do it and see what happens... make the classes 250 whatever and 350 and over whatever... see what happens...

Oh crap, you've marked yourself now. Go into hiding as you'll get attacked for your suggestion. Why not give it a try? How can it hurt? A ton of perspectives, but no PROOF "Kawasaki 2012" that it will have an impact.

The OEMs tell us what we will ride and the sales decline, participation declines and the sport declines because of it...

OK, shoot me now...

I couldn't take the sound of the 4s constantly hanging on the rev limiter. It would be much more fun to watch if they disabled the rev limiters and see those turds exploding all over the track. It would be like the 4th of July. God (I mean DC) please ban the 4-strokes.

How is that a good comparison? You have Lance Vincent who is is a top 10 national speed rider against a local pro on a bike that's no newer than a 2007 model 2-stroke.

Gimmie a break.......

Lance Vincent passed the kid on the 250 down a straightaway, right there is proof of the bikes being similar. Also machine, factor in that it's a northeastern track (one I would think that Calamita has ridden more than Vincent), the track is nothing compared to a national track, and there's also four guys out there racing compared to 40. Any racer know's it is much easier to hang with someone when you can actually see them (hence good start, only 4 people) and there aren't enough riders to separate the field.

pause the video when you can clearly see the smoker. its a 2000-2001. granted that was arguably the best motor honda ever made in a smoker but still im sure its outdated compared to the new katoom smokers.

Looks like a few people are scared that old technology can beat the latest and greatest for less cost but more fun

I've been racing that 2004 kx250 for about a year now and it's saved my family so much money. It also makes you feel a little more accomplished when you beat the other guys on 450s ha

Let's re write the rule book to allow more time in between motos for the 4 strokes to get ready

Let's ban leaded fuel

Let's put giant jumps 20 feet after hairpin turns

Let's add tons of deep loamy dirt to hardpack tracks to make horsepower more critical

Let's keep the minimum weight limit the same

Let's make 4 strokes twice the engine size of 2 strokers

Let's make changing entire clutches every moto the norm

Let's make changing entire engines between motos the norm
