DC mentioned this in Racerhead last Friday. Any ideas what is going to happen.

"By the way, the final end-all announcement of what’s happening with the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship will likely be forthcoming between now and Hangtown next week. Needless to say, there are going to be a few confused people out there, but the vast majority of motocross fans and industry folks will just be glad to put this all behind them and start focusing on the racing and the future. I even got to have a friendly conversation with Giuseppe Luongo, and we both agree it’s time to focus on the future and work together to make motocross a better sport all-around."

Ah, it's good to hear that there's some communication between the U.S. and Europe. One big motocross community is better than two separate camps.

They will keep racing I would assume. More prize money will be the shocker, I'm hoping.

Just a wild guess but I would say a combined weekend with the GPs somehow and races slowly migrating to road race venues a few at a time.

The idea of a true world championship is pretty exciting but can anyone really see it happening? Moto GP is so cool because you have the best riders on one off machines racing all over the world. Something like that in motocross would be great. What would the advantage be? Besides knowing who truly is the fastest rider in the world and seeing the best against the best every weekend on unobtainable equipment, there isn't really one. Costs would be huge and you would lose riders from the nationals here in the states. It would be a really cool thing for a rider to get to strive for; spend a few years racing AMA (or DMG?) nationals and then move up to the "big time". Of course, you can make the argument that the best riders are already racing the nationals...

americans riding bone stockers beating euros on their hi-tech stuff would be fun to watch for sure.

yeah, but that wouldn't be the point. If you are going to do a true world series, you can't be on production equipment. Like the Moto GP bikes, these bikes would need to be total one offs as well for the series to have prestige. Now, could the Americans beat the world on stockers? Of course and they have.

But think what it would do for development as well. The factories could try things without having to put them into production first and retooling the factories. Maybe it would actually lower costs in the long run.

They're not going to combine them, it makes no sense. It costs a fortune to get them over here and vice a versa. I can see maybe 2 North American GPs combined with the Nationals. Maybe one in the US, one in Canada like the Canadian SX round. Every nation has it's own National series. You combine the AMA series and the GPs it wouldn't take more than a year or two for another US National series to emerge from another promoter. 5 years and it's back to normal. None of the US based SX teams want to travel overseas half the year.

American and European Leagues. Top 20 from each go to the World Cup.

AND QUIT CHARGING THE RACERS TO HAVE A CHANCE AT WINNING...OR GETTING HURT.

ban the entry fee NOW!!!!

charge the teams a parking fee or whatever but leave the racers alone.

Most of the World races are held in Europe. Traversing the globe is not a very manageable.

It's already a huge ordeal to go from "sea to shining sea" in the US. Can't imagine how a unified world series would work.

His announcement won't have anything to do with YS. That paragragh is misleading.

npg is behind schedule on settling long term with DMG so that is more likely.

Then SX will grow to 20 events and squeeze MX smaller.

It will never happen, Americans have their agenda and Europeans have theirs.

Most of those guys can't make it through half the supercross season.
Yeah lets make it longer.

I think SX should grow to 30 events and MX should become a separate series, coupled with the Grands Prix, of about 25 events, all outdoors, starting in March and running to October, 12 in Europe and 12 in America and a big finale that rotates each year, for a true world championship. Let SX stand on its own and MX stand on its own. It's not the same sport anyway.

I was thinking maybe Live nation might get the dump and nascar takes over and adds more to the outdoor series. Maybe adding races on the infields of popular nascar tracks and what not and upping the pro purses majorly.

People are just waiting for the nats to sink or swim as they are this summer.

SX is going to grow bigger and the nats have to wait for what's left.

There won't be any combined nats/YS series.

DMG should take over everything, take inventory and do a real culture change (read Smoke and Noise #8), and make a better system.

I think they should give SX teams the points and run as many races as the market will support. That way they can hire replacement riders and still plan on being at every event with riders ready to race. You can also run with a set number of teams and manage it better.

BoobyM will be in charge of the rider's union. Smile

If I were the MX people, I would forget about trying to fight SX for the same riders and build something year-round with MX guys.

Scrap supercross. Reed, KW and those SX only guys can go play in Australia in Chads SX series.

That's not real racing. Where's the rocks, mud, off camber turns, top gear -balls out straightaways ?

After attending each Anaheim and San Diego this year Glen Helen was "Glen Heaven" they actually took it out of 2nd and started racing each other.

Plus who wants to pay $9 for a glass of dog piss rebadged as beer ??

Run Nationals March to July and run GP's the same then August to October the top 20 overall in the US nationals and GPs in each class go head to head in an 8 round series , 4 in Europe , 4 in the US for a true World Champion.

Bring back 45 minutes plus 2.

O.K I'm ready for the insults- one at a time please

Why not just forget SX and let it go with a finite number of professional SX guys?

You only need a couple dozen per class, and SX attracts a lot of international riders. Considering the number of years one guy can do it, you don't need to add a large number each year to cover turnover.

Out of the 1,000 or so guys chasing the dream at LL's each August, how many would you need to keep SX going? Not too many.

MX is trying too hard to keep up with SX and can't do it.
