Since this thread got brought back to the top, I'll take the opportunity to confirm that Lynn Nickerson did pass away this year. Lynn was motocross and if I could be a little selfish, he was Texas Motocross. No one could announce a race like he could, it's like he knew everyone. A few threads from earlier this year.

Talked to Bart and his Brother Fred a couple of weeks ago. Yes at 55+ and his brother at 63+ are both still racing.I sent him this link. Maybe he will enlighten us on his exciting past.

I'm not dead yet! Still racing, still wrenching, still love bikes. Thanks for all the kind words, makes me feel special. You also cannot forget the wild man from PA ( I think) Jaylil Jay Lynch. He is a prominent stunt man in Hollywood and has been the bike rider, car crash-er in a lot of your favorite films. He has work a lot w/ Debby Evans, a person of motorcycle legend. Oh by the way, I got a new hip ( wore the old one out) and hope to get back to LL next year. I feel great though and have not rode this good in some time. My brother Fred is also still racing and so are his sons from time to time.

Bart here, yes I did race pro around the same time as Andy Jefferson and David McClain. I was not super fast but made the programs at Uni, and Broome several times. I also rode a 250 GP at uni too.

Andy Jefferson was a good friend/competitor of my dads back in the Sunrise Cycle Park Days in the early to mid 80's. I was pretty young like 8-10 or so. Cool guy. I ran into him at a charity event some years ago.... like 15 years now. He was a bad dude in the local pro class and commonly ran white riding gear on whatever bike someone gave him. My dad always claimed white gear was "badluck", at least it was for him.

I've know Mr. Bart for a long time and have raced with him a few times. Way back in the 90s, I went to the Vet National at Perris. We stayed in a motel near the track that had a Burger King, I think, next door. Saturday evening we walked over for a burger and saw this old ragged out station wagon with a KX500 laying in the back. I remarked to my wife and buddy that anybody that went to the races like that, really wanted to race. When we got inside the burger joint, we saw Bart having dinner. Said hello, how are you, long time no see, did you see the KX500 in the station wagon? Can you believe that shit? He replied, yeah that's mine. He had flown out from NY, rented the bike and the car to race at Perris. Yeah, he's a racer. dbm

Wanted to mention another black mx racer - Leon Ellis, a fast 125 pro from Northern California. He raced during the mid 1970's through the early to mid 1980's. He used to post on Motodrive.

Wow, cool thread!

I grew up on minibikes in Nor-Cal in the mid -late 80's racing aginst a kid named Titus Jerome Smith. he was always in the mix with guys like Spud Walters, Ray Crumb and myself. He had a really great style but was a bigger kid and moved from 80 int. up to 125 int. at 14yrs I think.

I remember him running top 10 at Mammoth that first year on 125's. He easily could've gone pro like the rest of us did but just kind of disappeared around '89ish. A year or so later I asked a kid I knew that lived by him what happened and was told he had to quit racing and was now 6'3' 250ish and the star of the High School Football team.

I sometimes think of how good he could have become.
