Big difference here pal.
Your right, theres no "big risk = high reward" like the other competitions in X-games.

Theres still massive skill involved to navigate those courses, but it's not a "if he makes a mistake, pain is going to be had" genre. Quite weird when you think about it.

I never said that skill wasn't involved. I said that it didn't belong in the X games.

Again, nothing EXTREME about endurocross. It's marketing 101.

The whole "endurocross" thing is a fail, men or women. It was a mistake and won't be back next year.

So many of you guys talk tough but you know you wouldn't do much better on that course.

I thought the race was fun to watch.. showed fans that it wasn't as easy as the guys might have made it look. Very proud of Maria staying on course over the downhill following the water hole. I would have chickened out and went around too.

I agree.

Hopefully they bring back some type of MX/SX racing next year.
Would be cool if they had it at an outdoor (night or day) track in SO Cal.
The SX tracks they normally made in the stadiums for X always looked like shit.....compared to AMA.

Why would you say something like "tough talk" ?

Yes, it would be tough for clowns like us here on the boards, but that doesn't work to well when marketing it as an EXTREME sport.

Really, what part of this don't you or others get? I understand that some of you here would love to be extreme athletes, but that isn't the case.

Honestly, do you really need to see the ratings?

Do you believe that the numbers of people like yourself are huge in numbers, and are the targeted demographics for the X Games?

The only thing that was more painful to watch was Doug Henry launching off of Henry's Hill. I've recently become an Endurocross fan. The womens endurocross was a great way to set our sport back some more. It was a great way to encourage the general viewing audience that our sport is a joke. I feel bad for the women that were racing that because I'm 99% sure they were the laughing stock of the X-Games 2011. Bummer.

I agree..it didnt help MX's (as a community) cause. While it showed how hard riding a bike can be, most people are going to think the riders simply aren't that good because of how much people wrecked. When in all reality they are the best in the world. Kinda sucks, i hope there isnt too much negative publicity, I dont think there will be, guess we' ll see.

I can guarantee I'm not in the demographic.

The Endurocross series seems to be getting decent crowds, Erzberg/Romaniacs/Roof of Africa/No Way in Hell are all climbing in profile.

I don't totally like the Endurocross courses, the rock gardens are extreme & hard sure, but often just look ugly on TV ( the 180 corner worked with Taddy pivoting on his inside foot on the big rock, good trick that ), the log sections looked good, especially the jump into the water,

I'd prefer something more akin to the Moto X speed & style mixture, 1/2 SX & 1/2 logs/water/rocks

But fundamentally my take is X-Games needs to diversify, is Endurocross the main event, maybe not, but dependent on ratings I think it deserves a place in the listing & those real hard numbers/feedback count, sure as heck dropping it because jmar didn't like it, doesn't sounds to me like what the suits will do.

It doesn't matter what jmar, or any of us on this board thinks. It's the X Games which John Q Public expects to see something extreme, and endurecross isn't the right fit for the X Games. It doesn't take a executive suit to figure that out. In fact, I wouldn't want to be one of those suits that signed on to this come Monday morning. It doesn't take a marketing genius to figure that out.

Women was just sad, and the men were just boring.
7/31/2011 10:21pm
They cut out the men's supercross because female riders can't do the jumps. Next year will it be all female enduro-cross with a pussy course? Seriously though this kind of floundering goes on all the time in off-road. You just can't see it because there is no spectating on the course except near the pits.

Actually I think it fit in pretty well, it was dangerous, gnarly, and extreme. And lots more extreme than any of the skate competitions sans mega ramp big air. Do you even ride? or do you think skating is that much more extreme.

Simple question

Who is the target market for the X Games and what do they expect to see?

I can assure you that it's not endurocross. It may float your boat, but John Q Public want's (and expects to see) some guy doing a back flip or a superman.

Sad but true.

I realized 10 minutes of Women's EnduroCross is better than one entire Shark Week, and that's saying a lot. However, I don't think it's that fact that them being "Women" has much to do with anything besides they are not as physically strong as the men to muscle the bike around.

Most of the women were strictly Motocross racers, and probably have little experience in the woods or offroad to boot. So, with that being said, I'm not surprised by the end result at all, but at least I can understand why.

It may not have been "Extreme" enough for X-Games, that may be true but I won't bash on the women who were out there riding because I know I'd be getting lapped on a course like that. How about that girl that won? They said she has to fly back to Seattle and then go to work in the morning as a union electrician, I don't know about you guys but I'd call in sick after winning gold at X Haha

Target market for Xgames is everyone, that's why they try to differentiate their sports and have something for everyone, as well as changing sports to accommodate current popular extreme sports and eliminate old ones, hence the adoption of rally and rally cross and the elimination of supermoto and rollerblading. Their main focus is the younger crowd but you're off point if you don't think a 10-28yr old would find enduro x interesting. Just because you found it boring doesn't mean it's not extreme and doesn't fit.

Ifyou thought that was boring then your observation is a fail, because that was some of the best racing I have seen in quite a while, 5 leaders thru the halfway point, leaders going down, teammates bangin' bars, and a downright awesome course that displayed some ridiculous bike skills

So much hand-wringing in such a small space...

Yes, it was sort of painful to watch (but not as painful as it'll be for some of them to get out of bed tomorrow morning). You'll get over it eventually. Of course, for some, it might require some really expensive (and extensive) therapy.

Just be glad you weren't Elizabeth Bash. I guarantee this one hurt.
