Looks like a full podium for KTM in MX2.

Nice ride by Herlings. It's amazing how dominant KTM are in the GPs as opposed to their struggles in anything AMA.

Southwick will be interesting.

X 2 , Herlings is a great sand rider, and it will be interesting to see his speed vs the US Nats riders.@Southwick.

Im wondering if he will Race west coast SX in 2012 like Roczen did, and then come over full time in 2013?

Matiss Karro is gonna be at Southwick too.

I may have jumped the gun there a bit, I'm not sure whether it's confirmed or not. On the assumption he does race Southwick - I don't think he'll necessarily have an easy time. Southwick is sandy but it's not deep sand, and that may work against him. Wilson, Baggett, Rattray will not roll over easily.

But anyway I hope it is true.

IMO Southwick isn't close to a sand track anymore.

the battle beetween desalle and de dycker is funny to watch, the line choice of de dycker is epic :D

That`s heartbraking. All this work to get to 4-th , just to lose it couple of corners from finish. Damn !!!

That sucks for Rui,

With Cairoli having a big pts lead, would be really cool to see him come over for Southwick along with Herlings and a few other GP guys,,

I rode there earlier this year on a monday, and it rained 3.5 inches on sunday, and there was no standing water on the track, and, after about an hour, the entire track was whoops. Does a non sand track take 3.5 inches of water and get that whooped out? Go hit that first uphill right hander after the start and tell me it's not a sand track. That has to be one of the coolest turns in motocross. You can click 4th gear in the middle of it on a 250f.

It may not be the sandiest track in the world, but it's still a sand track. There are a couple dried out riverbeds in California that are sandier for sure; if you're riding a 250f you can't even let off of the throttle or you will just come to a dead stop. Southwick isn't quite that sandy, but it's still one of the sandiest organized racetracks in America. Plus, it has a decent amount of elevation change for a sand track (most really sandy tracks are flat, since they are dry riverbeds), which makes it a pretty physically demanding track.

I think he will be very hard to beat... sand or no sand.

It was kind of funny how they kept saying the fastest sand rider in the world. I'm not saying he's not (after watching him ride today I wouldn't argue he isn't), but just proof both events (GP and AMA) do that and there's nothing wrong with it. Just promoting their respective series riders like they're paid to do.

I wondered if he kept saying that to be ironic to be honest. Its not very often (if ever) you hear someone from over hear talk like that. Saying that though Herlings seems to be a head strong confident little shit Smile , so maybe he does firmly believe he is.

Apparently he'll only ride Southwick if he is 50 points down on Ken or more and thinks the GP title is out of his reach.

That's how I was hearing it too Jamma, sounded more like it was tongue in cheek dig towards the AMA / Allisports broadcast team.

I've never actually heard an AMA rider proclaim to be the fastest on the planet, it's just a fucking stupid phrase Weege and Emig can't let go off.

Herlings does seem a cocky little shit, riding like that though, on a surface which is unmatched anywhere in the world, I guess he can legitimately lay claim to the fastest sand rider on the planet tag.

just spoken to herlings about 2mins ago..... http://www.vurbmoto.com/blogs/2341/herlings-southwick/

"You said on the podium that you are the fastest sand rider on the planet, are you going to ride Southwick to prove that?

I’m hoping for that, yes. I’m going to speak to the big bosses later but if I win there, then I think it’s pretty much official. By winning Valkenswaard, by winning here - some people say Latvia, but Latvia wasn’t sandy at it all, it was a pretty hard-pack track. But winning here and Valkenswaard assured people that I’m the fastest in Europe at the moment. But I really would love to go to Southwick show what I can do there.

So it’s down to the KTM bosses?

Yes. Me, I’m ready to go. Just pack my bags and I’m gone, but it’s not just up to me."

i was thinking exactly that...... no doubt they'll all get bent out of shape, just like what happened with de Reuver's innocuous comments in '08 lol

Personally i loved Herlings comment after the race! I love a little bragging... really spices things up :D

Also after the race Roczen was calling him the fastest sand rider in the world too, maybe they had a little bet with each other this week??

I wasn't referring to Herlings or the riders. I was referring to the mx-life crew/girls doing the interviews after the second moto. No big deal, just thought it was interesting cause of all the drama when something similar was said over here last year (RX cover w/ Dungey) and Emig saying it this year during the broadcasts. In my opinion, people make a big deal out of nothing. Just the media doing their jobs-promoting their series.

I agree the riders were probably doing it tongue and cheek. Like Roczen's tweet talking about getting second to Herlings.

Ken's twitter: overall good weekend. bummer in first moto. but i think i showed that i have good speed in the sand. its not bad to finish sec. after the worlds best sand rider...

lommel is a proper track! cant wait to ride there again in 5 weeks! Smile

on the herlings/ southwick subject- it will be difficult for him having never ridden there before, but if anybody can win there he can! he hasnt said which class either has he? be cool i f he rode the 350, just to prove to everyone that the bike is good enough with the right rider in the 450 class! in my opinion herlings and cairoli could both win at southwick - just hope teh ktm bosses let them ride!

I hope the rumours of a few gp riders racing unadilla are true aswell!!! i love that track probably my favourite ama track, really enjoyed watching desalle race there last year. Its a shame no ama riders make the trip the other way over the pond- i would love to see some of the top ama riders race a gp or two!

We need a word more gnarly than brutal to describe it!

it really is amazing watching guys like herlings/ cairoli ride round tracks like lierop and lommel- they make it look far too easy!!!! i love riding there myself, its very challenging- but how the hell herlings can do 40 mins round there at that pace is beyond me!!!! he is definitely the best sand rider i have ever seen, he just carries so much momentum in the corners, and seems to glide round the track- he's really good at working the bike- skipping through braking bumps etc. He looks like he's riding a different track to everyone else at times!

For most riders lommel is just a survival exercise- more of an enduro than a mx race- when you ride there yourself, then you see herlings ride there you appreciate just how good he is!!! I can see jeffrey doing an RV 07 at the des nations there next year and smoking everyone (including the 450s) assuming he stays on, and is fully fit!
8/1/2011 1:45am
impressive that micheal can manage to run top 10 pace there though- on a track that must still feel totally alien to him?

Yeah, but David, you know the guys with GP experience don't consider Southwick a "proper" sand track.

for the des nations?!

i meant it would be nice to see some US ama riders come over for a gp or 2, ride some new tracks against different riders, in a different country (out of their comfort zone)- like desalle has done the last 2 years (but the other way round)

the des nations wil be great this year- its a brilliant track, i cant wait! But how cool would it be to see dungey/ RV/ baggett etc come over to race a gp?
Lierop would be a good one- be good practice for the des nations at lommel Smile

most of them don't consider valkenswaard a 'proper sand track' either!!!! it looked very sandy to me when we went to the gp there in april!!!!! although it has to be said, it isnt the bottomless sand of lommel/ lierop!
