Guys, we are talking about flying down for the last National. What's the deal with this Pala place - is there any civilization around? Should we stay at the casino or look for a room in whatever city is closest instead? What is the "coolest" place nearby to be in - as i understand it was a real clusterfuck last year with getting in there so not sure I want to stray too far.

If we are flying in Thursday, should we stay at the casino the whole weekend or is there other stuff within a couple hours to go see and a place we should stay instead?

We just decided to go and I am all fired up - haven't looked at Google maps yet.

Thoughts? Help a moto-brother out...

Your best bet imo is staying at the casino. Pala is down in a canyon between temecula and san diego. If you wanted something else to do you can back track outta the canyon and head into san diego/escondido area. Go to the beaches, the big zoo down in san diego, sea world ect.

Going to the beaches are my favorite: fish tacos, sunburn, bikinis.

Oceanside is close to Pala, then venture north to Newport/Balboa Beaches. All are good for different reasons.

Head up to the desert, past Competitive Edge and Raceway 395. I love the deserts.

I am shopping for my flights right now. You can fly into John Wayne/Santa Ana or Ontario fairly easy.

Stay at the Casino. So much easier access on raceday. Where are you flying into? Maybe stay there Thursday night and then go to the Pala casino for Friday.
BTW the casino is "the place to be" both friday and esp sat nite!

Just make sure to get there early Saturday morning (if you're not camping at the track), and plan on hanging out for a while afterward.

Temecula's close, but doesn't offer up much in the way of nightlife. Oceanside might be good for an at-the-beach place to stay

I wouldn't stay at Pala from Thursday night to Sunday. You will be bored on Friday. You should stay in Pacific Beach or Mission Beach Thursday night- it's near the airport and there are lots of restaurants and nightclubs. Also good beaches for Friday. Downtown SD and the zoo area are great as well.
Go to Pala Friday night or early Sat morning, stay late and hang around the pits with the winning teams.

Rent Bikes!!

I suggest fly in Tuesday, go ride Milestone Wednesday with every other pro. Thursday, morning session at Glen Helen... Stay the night at the casino Friday night and Saturday, if you can still get a room..

As everyone has said, stay at the casino on Friday and Saturday nights, the other nights you should stay in San Diego or where you flew into. Palomar Airport would be a good place to fly into also, but you just said you already got your flight.

Don't go to the beaches in O'side, those suck, go either north to San Clemente, or a bit further south to Carlsbad. O'side is not a good town.

If you can't get a room at Pala the night before or of the race you might want to stay at Harrah's Rincon. It's the opposite direction everyone will be heading...

Ditto skipping Oceanside. Go to La Jolla, rent a sea kayak, and kayak out in La Jolla cove. It is beautiful. I think downtown, Balboa park, and the zoo are also must-do things.

i lived in Carlsbad and there was some cool bars and also Oceanside harbor is small but couple cool places to check out. its only about half hour with traffic from Oceanside. its nice cause your on the ocean if your into that. hotels might be less crowded in that city might be cheaper? hope this helps.

These are some wild allegations that have been stated here, and the slanderous and threatening nature of your post here and previous email are a little over the top, the email was so over vulgar it didn't warrant a response. You were a member of Pala, and we have never done business with you besides the transactions you did while coming to ride at Pala Raceway. We are not sure where this hate is coming from as you have never been employed at Pala Raceway and are basing things off hearsay.

By no means are we perfect, but we take responsibility for our actions, we pay our debts, and we made amends with the people that pre purchased tickets that did not make it to the venue last year due to the traffic that contacted us through the appropriate channels. We are making huge improvements to the parking and traffic plans for this year’s event. Last year we had 90 days to insure that Southern California kept a National on the circuit. This year we have refined what worked well last year and revised what didn’t, to try and make Pala Raceway a better venue for National Motocross.

For everyone coming to this year’s event, it will be a thrilling race hopefully with both Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships on the line.

Thank you,

Pala Raceway Staff

What's the legal status defamation via internet public forum? Is it held in the same light as other published media; TV and print journalism? Or is the internet still open season for the semi-anonymous?

Maybe FTE has a take on this?
