He should go to KTM and prove to everyone that it is not about the bike. He should even ride the 350 to prove that he is so bad ass that he can give up 100cc's and still kick ass.

Family is where the herart is.
RD, Ian, Goose and The Dunge camp. KTM is building a brand new 450 for him. I hope it will happen!

Fully disagree with the 350. Fully agree that I would like to see him win a title on the KTM.

Love the 350, but IMO wouldn't suit Dungey - he's been on a 450 too long. The 350 needs an aggressive 250 rider moving up, to see it's true potential. When Roczen gets on it full-time, it will do well. I think Chisholm or Barcia could push it really well too,

Definitely good point Faceaz, but IMO going down 100cc and only a minimal weight difference is totally going in the wrong direction. The 350 seems good in theory, but I don't think it can compare to a 450 since there is not a significant weight difference.

You bastard! Ha! Just jokes. Hey, if he goes (which seems to be the case), and wins, he is a total stud. So, he has that going for him. On the other hand, if things don't go well....better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

The lap times between the 250 and 450 aren't THAT significant. I think the top 250 riders are about 4-6 seconds off the 450 guys pace (correct me if I'm wrong). An extra 100 CC's on a lites rider might be enough to pick up that gap. Barcia needs to learn to keep it on two wheels on a 250 though before getting a bigger bike. I think Roczen and Cairoli (spelling?) will rock and roll on the 350. I think Dean Wilson and Baggett would do well on it as well.

I agree, Dungy never really knew how to ride a 250. Wink

Dungey won't leave Suzuki. If he does, then I guess KTM just became a winning team!

You're right (if I understand you correctly): The 350 is not as good because it's a 100cc's down, not because of any weight difference. Stewart tried to race RC on a 250 against RC's 450. RC laughed...but then again, RC kicked Stewart's rear when Stewart was on a 450!

Not trying to start up the whole 350 debate, but it really has little to do with the weight & much more with RPMs. The 350 makes it's power @ several thousand RPM higher than the 450's. If you work through the mechanical advantage created by lower gearing to get the same final drive with the added RPM, rear wheel horsepower of the 350 vs. 450 is very close.

The problem is getting a rider who is really comfortable revving a bike. Riders who have been on the 450's for a few years become a little lazy (for lack of better word) in their technique, not carrying speed as much through the turns & adapting to more of a point and shoot style of riding. A rider who is accustomed to bouncing off the rev limiter, can easily be competitive on the 350 vs. the 450's. That's why I would really like to see Barcia on it, that kid is WOT all the time. Taking a rider who has a few years on the 450 & trying to re-train him to ride higher in the RPM range has to be pretty difficult.

In any event, you can toss any weight savings, differences, etc. The race team bikes are all close to the minimum, which is the same for 350 & 450.
