for those that don't have to it doen't look like a good year to do that, not that much good rides to look for and it all can go pretty wild if dungey signs something......
guess everybody has to wait for the big names to settle in and then look for what is left...
still i think seely, rattray, sipes, tickle, hanson.......are kind of old to stay lite...!!!!!!!
Broc Tickle has 1 year to defend his title.
I think Blake Wharton has too.
Ryan Sipes?
these guys are all fabricated athletes making a living in the class. hell, a few of them have spent their entire career in the class.
the pointing out thing is gay. only reason for moving up in my opinion would be from getting championships.
"...we’ll also try to explain the rules of, “pointing out,” of the Lites class...
...And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for: “pointing out.” Hey, I’m not stupid, if I would have put this at the beginning of the column, none of you guys would have read the rest. So, what exactly does pointing out mean? It isn’t as simple as drawing attention to the fact that somebody has been in the Lites class for a long time. Wouldn’t that be funny though? “Hey, this is the tenth year he’s been in the Lites class, you better go point that out to the AMA!” Pointing out, of course, means earning enough points that you are no longer eligible to compete in the Lites class. Here is the exact passage from the AMA/FIM supercross rulebook that deals with this situation...
...Effective with the 2007 season points, riders earning at least 135 Supercross Lites Championship points in an nine-race season, 120 Supercross Lites Championship points in an eight-race season, or 105 Supercross Lites Championship points in a seven-race season, in three seasons of Supercross Lites competition will be ineligible for the Supercross Lites class.
There are other conditions as well. Riders who have won a premier class (SX, MX, or GP MX1) title aren’t eligible to race Lites, nor are supercross class riders who finished inside the top 20 in the supercross class in 2008, 2009, or 2010.
There are also some championship-specific conditions. I know this is getting a bit wordy, but stick with me, we’re almost done. Riders that have won a supercross Lites title will not be allowed to compete for more than three years in the class. In other words, if you win it in your first year, you’ve got two more years of eligibility left. Unless of course, you win back-to-back titles; then you’re sent straight to the Supercross class. If you already have three or more years in the class and then win the title, consider yourself promoted. This means that, under the current rules, if Josh Hansen wins the title this year, he won’t be coming back to the Lites class. What a bittersweet victory that might be for all the Hanny-Haters out there."
Pit Row
The silly season will be in full swing soon enough, but mark two names off the list. Ryan Sipes and Kyle Cunningham have re-signed with the DNA Shred Stix Star Racing team for 2012. The two riders signed letters of intent between practice sessions at Hangtown. That’s Star Racing owner Bobby Regan shaking hands with Ryan Sipes.
He's much tamer on a 450 from the times I've seen him ride the bike.
