I saw the following interesting things (somethings I can not say because I want to go back to red bud next year):
Tazers
mud wrestling
a beach (yes really)
pepper spray
an austrailian Justin Barcia
a naked chick peeing in the road, she was a little "busy" before that
M80s
a guy with a fire extinguisher making a mess
countless passed out drunks
a guy throw mud balls at the cops
three fights
I think that is all I remember

Before the 450 moto 2 podium celebrations I was pretty close to the front and a middle aged guy was standing next to me and we chatted a bit about the racing...well, the Rockstar girls went up on the podium a few minutes before the race was over and after a minute or so he goes...
"So, which one of 'em do you think is the best looking this week?"
I look at the girls for a few seconds and say to him "The top half of 'em or the bottom?"
He replies "the one on the left is my daughter " (with a grin on his face weirdly reminiscent of a father whose daughter just graduated college or something)
So in my head I'm thinking (thank god I didn't just make an ass of myself!) ...I could've said any number of things that wouldn't have gone over well. Honestly, imagine the thing's your average 25 year old male could've said in that situation. Both "good" & "bad".
Anyways, after a second or two of soaking up the situation I just played it safe and said "You know, they're all pretty hot this weekend."
Glad I wasn't drinking this year
The days of fireworks, bon fires, pit vehicles, porta potty burning, etc are long gone. They have it under control. Coolest security dudes I have ever met. Imagine that. Treat your customers with respect and they will respect you. Wish other tracks could grasp the concept. They are just to lazy and narrow minded. No way I would pay money to "camp" in a field with insufficient bathroom/shower facility's when I can't have a campfire or bring in a few beers. Red Bud is the only National that allows both and has the highest attendance. Imagine that.
On the opposite extreme you have Millville. Zero carry ins. Zero campfires. Worse bathroom/shower facility's. Pure dickhead security. Attendance has dropped every year. Imagine that.
I would take my Grandmother to camp at Red Bud but I would not take my ex wife to camp at Millville. I don't hate her that much. lol
They even roped off the back part of the party lot so it couldn't be seen from the general public parking lot.
One thing I did notice this year, I haven't seen so many barefoot peiple since I let my National Geographic subscription expire.
Try it with all the other national tracks and none of them work with the same simple music.
It also sounds good with any accent, from canadian to Australian, to southern.
Can't wait until next year's edition of "ReD Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud"
Looking forward to going back again.
Pit Row
A grown man on a XR70 riding around the pits (no pit bikes allowed) with about a year old kid sitting in front of him. Neither with a helmet and the man with both hands on the bars not even hanging on to the kid. The man in shorts and the kid in a diaper. They came around a blind corner of the end of the row while I was walking the other way and almost ran into me. What if I'd have been driving a truck?
We were there from Wed night to Sun night and never really saw anything worse that what you'd see on regular primetime TV.
Parking B is up the hill quite a ways from the A lots. And you can not get in Parking B without the proper wrist band. We had rider family bands where you could go almost anywhere. Once while making my way up to the pro pits (past lot
I was riding my ATV from the night track up to the pro pits Saturday evening and saw an older guy walking up the road near the cross roads. He looked beat so I asked him if he wanted a ride.
He hopped on the back rack and we rode about 150' up the road and this guy with no shirt or shoes comes running up to us. We could tell he had had a few.
He told me he would give me $5 to haul his cooler up to the lot next to the 50 track.
I was going that way already to drop off the passenger so I told him to throw it on and asked where he wanted to meet me. He said he would find me.
We take off at about 5 mph and the dude is running behind us. I speed up. I am talking to the guy on the back. His daughter raced in the pro Women's race Saturday and he was proud of her for doing better than expected but that he was worn out.
Meanwhile the barefoot dude is still jogging behind us.
We got up to the top of the hill and he is parked right on the edge of the road. Then he realizes that his buddy that is back at the bottom of the hill has the keys and he can't give us the money.
I wasn't really going to charge him $5 anyway, so I asked him what was in the cooler. Coors Light and PBR. I got 3 beers. One for the Racing dad on the back of the atv and two for my buddy David who was down working at the night race and I knew would appreciate a couple beers when the racing was done.
I just can't believe that guy ran the whole way barefoot and drunk. Probably 700 or 800 yards and uphill.
He sure wasn't going to let the cooler out of his sight.
Have worked RB the last 4 years. The Ritchies are great to work for and it is fun to be a little part of such an awesome event.
I do General work, run equipment, and help during the AM races.
Maybe you are thinking of big John that started out working for MX Sports at LL's and now works most nationals because he is so familiar with the security issues at the Nationals.
Over the years he has become a fixture and always has been fair and reasonable guy. I try to attend several Nationals a year, both in-and-out of the Pro pits and I appreciate seeing friendly, recognizable, faces.
