Man this brings back memories. The last year the top guys rode two strokes. I always wondered how everything would have played out if the four stroke didn't take over. Carmichael and Stewart adapted to the four stroke much quicker and better than Reed did. In 05 they all three were really close in speed, but the two following years Carmichael and Stewart were a big step ahead of Reed. I still say Carmichael wins in 06 though.

Ernesto was one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I remember him at St Louis in 99. It was his rookie year and he was #100 on the Yamaha of Troy. He came from last due to a first turn crash to win the main event. He had a last lap pass on Kelly Smith and Smith crashed. After it, Smith pushed Ernesto and his bike to the ground.

Stewart's races as a 259 white background are rare that's for sure. I think the 05 Orlando race that year was one of the most anticipated races of all time.

Gosh! i even hit up Google hoping to maybe find a site that still has one of those "Inside The Factory Bike of....." stories, and found nothing. I must be getting old, 2005 only seems like a few years ago, not SIX! Unsure

Wonder where Wandell is? he also always has great pics from the past.

If anything, this has taught me to organize my pic folders a lot better from here on out! I was just looking at my folders, my 2011 SX pic folder has almost 2000 pics in it. i should burn them to DVD's or just copy them onto hard drives, put them in a time capsule and bury them in my backyard LOL

Trying to stay awake until F1 starts, so i9 added a bunch more to the main galleries. One thing i realized, i sure left out the privateers back then!

Thx bud, the thing that had me so intrigued and thinking about '05 last night was, can you imagine the $$ teams were spending to develop both 2 and 4 strokes bikes in the same season? It sure was in interesting time in our sport. Teams were spending some BIG buck just on rider contracts that year.

and btw: who was #70 under the Honda tent? its a little before 6am here and i am drawing a blank (up early to watch F1 qualis)

Thanks for all of the pics. I was at the Lakewood race in 05 too. I have to say, Stewart's two-stroke looks the best to me. That is the first two-stroke I have seen that made me want to ride a two-stroke again. Beautiful bike.

Indeed it is, tried my best but couldn't find any of the KTM's of that year. Perhaps you have some? Got the other bikes in there.

I have a whole 'nother hard drive to plug into an external case that has tons more photos, im sure there are some on there. Like i said earlier, '05 was just a strange year, guys riding different bikes for SX/MX, Lots of $ in the sport that year, it was a good time for sure.

Remember the infamous Chad vs RC at Daytona on 2 strokes all caught on helmet cam? EPIC!

Glad you guys dig this stuff, i love the machines!

Funny story: Back when i was just a kid, me and my best friend Chris Neal would go to the races and he would be standing at the box vans trying to score some schwag from the riders, and i would be out front talking to the mechanics and staring (drooling) over the bikes. I was just 7yrs old when i did my 1st top end, and split my first cases and did a bottom end on my '83 YZ 80 when i was only like 12 or 13. I loved wrenching almost as much as i did riding, loved making every single little minute detail just perfect.

You had to if your dad wasnt to savvy with the tools,or didnt have the time.And it was just as expensive ,back then.

My dad was an awesome mechanic, he is a total perfectionist, and a clean freak! and i get a lot of that from him. I just loved taking things apart from a very young age, even way before dirtbikes. I would take anything apart and then figure how to put it back together. Im just an all around fix it kinda guy.
