A doctor may suggest delaying the flight if possible if the child is sick. There is no permanent damage but the babys will cry if their ears don't pop.

Babies can get sunburned easily and I am not sure I would want to put chemicals on the babies (under 6mo) skin to block the sun. At one point they were saying that the ingredients in early sunblock was not safe (I don't know if this was true). So the point is why cause an infant undue stress or pain. You can wait 6mo until they and not ride, or keep the wife at home with the child. If the child is in a baby seat, its face is pointing at the sun, and should be blocked so eyes and skin do not get direct exposure.

So I guess that means use common sense. If the infant does not have to be out, it is better that they don't and that is probably the best thing, but if you do decide to take them to the track, keep it in the shade so it does not suffer overexposure and protect their little ears. Not that it would die from a sunburn but I think the prudent parent would be extra careful.

There are people who will say if you put your child on a PW50 you are reckless and your children should be removed from you. So you won't please everyone especially extremists but do take extra care at the track if you do take the risk.
BTW we are flying, 2 weeks from now. You want to know what the doctor told me? Feed him while taking off and landing, it will help with his ears. Somehow I feel a little more comfortable taking our doctors advise over yours seeming as you go straight to attack us and our parenting.

Our son is first in our family, but in order to keep it a family we still need to do the things that brought us together in the first place and make us happy. If any of you have really had children you would know that it REALLY takes a toll on your relationship. The way we relieve stress is at the track. If we arent on edge hes not on edge, so we have a happier baby.
As for dust and sun...we do night/evening practice and we will only go the the local track that stays well watered. Not to mention my son is still going to be covered whenever we decide to take him to the track again, because we will. If he didnt like the experience last time he definitely would have let us know. First off, I didn't attack you, you are being defensive. Second I said if the child was sick reread my post and the suggestion came from a doctor.

and I read the same thing online, feed them or give them a binkie to help with the pressure. Third, I never said you were a horrid parent, I did not say the original poster was a horrid parent although some other posters did. You should re read my post. And remember I also said use common sense. If I were going to suggest you were horrible at anything is reading, comprehension and possibly over reacting, but possibly you quoted the wrong person (me), I never said any of those things you said I said.

this is for every asshole parent who brings there screaming infant on a plane.....just so you know, every single person on the plane HATES you.

as someone who flies twice a month, i cant even count the number of times ive wished the plane would do the world a favor and just crash.

if it aint the screaming bastard child in the seat behind me, its the sick person coughing up a lung next to me.....or the jerkoff who takes 12 minutes to get his luggage from the overhead compartment while half the plane is stuck waiting in the aisle unable to get off the plane. bunch of inconsiderate pricks.

goddamn i hate flying.

(dont even get me started on the TSA...... www.fuckthetsa.com )

Wow, your schedule is that tight that you can't afford the few minutes delay while someone is getting their luggage?

As for the rest, the only thing I can say is - suck it up pal.

Mind you, if you are talking about air travel inside the US (or even transiting through the US), I don't have enough time in the day to name all the things I'd rather do.

I am being defensive, there are more than a handful of people on here questioning my priorities and parenting skills. Perhaps I did misquoted you and I am sorry for that but i was referring to more than you in that post, and thank you for pointing out my weaknesses in my education. But I am not about to take my child in a car, through the desert, on an all day drive because that is very hard on him. Ever had a screaming hungry baby in a carseat in the backseat while stuck in traffic or when there's no exit for another 20 mins? Its not a pretty picture.

My question was how to take care of a child while at the track, primarily the noise, not how to run another man's life.

Learn how to take care of a child at home first?

Yes, babies can have problems with "popping" their ears, same as adults can. Easiest thing to do is have the child suck on a dummy (pacifier) or have them drink a bottle while taking off/landing. Has worked a treat for us every time.

Good for you for coming on here for advice, better to find out info than just going out with no protection or any idea. Me, personally, i don't believe in the "leave the kids at home" deal if something dangerous is happening. Take the appropriate precautions, theres not need to turn your kid into the "boy in the bubble"

To the OP:
I have four kids and all have pretty much grown up at Ocotillo Wells from the time they were infants and my wife and I operate a child care facility that is licensed for 22 infants and a total capacity of 200 kids under the age of 6, just so you know where I am coming from.
I think a lot of folks assumed that taking a kid to the track=lack of care. I live in AZ, so there are always obvious concerns for anyone, especially the young. If you can provide a cool place for the child (optimally an RV), maybe a decent tent with fans, can meet all the child's needs in terms of feeding, changing, having a place to sleep (portable playpen is a good idea) and keep them safe and away from any potential hazards such as roost or a bike coming off of the track (sorry for stating the obvious, but hey...) and keep the noise to a minimum while not impacting others at the track (and making it their responsibility to keep their bike away from your kids, etc), I say proceed, sir. If you and Mom can "switch shifts" at the track, just like at home, even better. I always raised my kids doing things I liked to do, so that when they got older we can enjoy them together. Nothing wrong with kids at the track, in fact sometimes they have better manners than the adults. JMHO.

I have a 3 year old and he offten finds himself on the tank of the 450 for a quick lap in 1st gear around the vet track at either milestone, Comp Edge or 395. I am at one of these tracks a few times a month so the water truck guys and flaggers just give me a smile and a thumps up to the boy, never have i been told i can ride him on the tank, and come on who wasn't ridden on the tank of some old thumper your dad had? i have old reel to reel video of me and my dad 5th ger pinned on a 1986 XR500 both no protection at all but i can blame him it was just what was done back in the day. So my guess it to find a track like Milestone with a grass area where you can allow the kid to play and take a nap in a play pin and be away from all the dust etc....but please don't leave him at home if it wasn't for those trips back in the day with my pops i don't think i would love what i do now as much!

I have a 6 month old, and he now goes everywhere with my family and I, the track, the desert, hell he even hangs out with me in the garage while I wrench on bikes.....I am not questioning the OP's parenting skills, although I think its funny he got his fiance on here to defend him.....my only comment was the kid is 7 WEEKS old not 7 MONTHS old as some people are saying....if your family is going to fall apart if you skip the track for a few more weeks, then theres other issues going on....BUT, if you guys already have all figured out, and took the baby to the track already, with no issues....why come here and ask for advice??

Right on I agree, kids are good people at the races, majority well mannered and friendly and probably even tell the truth more then their parents ha When I get protests or complaints I always call the kids up first !

So you're the idiot I've seen put his kid's life on the line at the track!!!

Anyone who puts his kid on the tank of their 450 and rides around the track must have hit his head one time too many.

I'm with Yamaharider on this one. I used to LIVE for that ride on the gas tank of my dad's XR500. He would pull wheelies with me holding tightly onto the crossbar while I was smiling as big as I possibly could, and it was the epitome of joy to me at the time. I've given my daugters VERY slow rides around the track on my 450 while sitting in front of me. They love it. To all the people that think this is idiotic...or I've "hit my head one too many times"...get a grip. Complain complain complain...typical with today's modern society...always looking for something to bitch about or point the finger and claim "you're and idiot". Hypersensitivity at it's finest. You probably complain about the violence of Sylvester and Tweetie...or the fact that Yosemite Sam had *gasp*, guns in the old Looney Toons on Saturday mornings.
