I'm about to be 16, and rode a 85 for about 4 years and now have a '01 YZ 125. I mainly race cross country, but try and go to motocross tracks to get seat time. Which would better suit me 125 or 250f?

Thanks

i have to say... go with a KTM 144SX. My son is easing from his 85 to the 144.

Still running the 85 while starting to practice on the 144

I can see this being a big argument but I would go with a 2 stroke, nothing against 4 strokes tho

For anyone else... I vote 4 stroke. But coming from a small 2 stroke and going to a bigger bike... the 144 is the perfect blend. Its still fast, very light and just a good overall trasnition.

If you do mainly cross country, I'd have to say 2 smoker. You can moto on anything really. Plus the tracks around you aren't that detrimental to a 2 stroke (nothing really too hard pack). I used to live in Texas and raced most all of the tracks up in north and central Texas.

You get out to the Flying P ranch often? Is that still there?

A 2-stroke is always the better choice...... unless you're planting corn.

That's sad. It was a pretty fun place to ride. And I heard Mosier Valley is gone too.

If you go with a four stroke you need to have the starting down pat or by a 4 stroke with electric start.
My yz250f got really hot on the tight trails so that is something to consider also.
My son who races a BW 85 can ride my KTM 200 with no problem.

There is a (or was a) motocross track in Burleson that was fun. Also, springcreek in mansfield. Swan MX in Tyler. Oak Hill is right by you. There are some tracks around Austin but thats a bit of a drive. I don't know of any places to just play ride though.

A 144... If you wanna go serious about moto then go with the 250f

Actually if you do mostly woods riding that KTM200 is really really hard to beat as someone already mentioned.

get the 2 stroke by a mile..... more fun to ride.... easier to work on..... cheaper, both off the start and in the long run....
