Chain derails in SX which probably cost him the championship then a bike/gas failure that might cost him this one.
Just a bummer for the guy.

Dungey destroyed Reed and Villipoto. That is all that matters.

what? get over it men. lites outdoor championschip 2009 he won the championship because CP377 bikes broke, last year outdoor en supercross title he won becauses all the big names where out or not riding. and also this year with not his chain problem he also not won the championschip. if we gonna talk that way, like if this and that, than we got allot of different champions over the years.

I was just thinking the same thing! I'm seeing a trend for the weekend... first Dungey and now JR Hildebrand!

I guess that JR missed out on a MUCH bigger payday. He still skidded across in 2nd however.

All the big names were out? Bullshit! Things would have played out pretty much the same. You see the way he is riding, and you still want to put an asterisk next to his title? Ryan is a monster Outdoors. His fitness, speed and consistency are more than a match for anyone out there.

Yea as a Dungey fan also, luck or bad luck happens in this sport! Last year he had all the cards fall his way, this year, some bad luck! He will kill it at high Point and I expect a real good showing from RV!

I feel a little bad for RD but he's a great kid with great people around him and this series is far from over. RD will be back as strong as ever next race.

MCR, I feel bad having to bust this quote out on you but . . .

Champions are Champions because they earned it and deserve it
There is no such thing as a paper champion or an (*) Asterisk

Every single racer who participates in a Championship series faces the EXACT SAME Risks each and every time they line up for a race:
1) Losing control of their bike and crashing
2) Injury from accident that stops them from competing in every round of the series.
3) Becoming involved in a crash simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time
3a) See 2 above
4) Mechanical failure of their motorcycle
5) Being ridden off the track because they failed to protect their line

Every race is straight up because every single rider started at the exact same time with a predetermined number of laps to be raced to determine the winner

Making excuses for your hero makes you look like a rookie
Blind devotion to your hero makes you a fanboy and we don't like fanboys
Your HERO does need you to defend him or his honor on the interwebs

Smile

Most all teams try to combat the "fuel boiling" problems in some way or another. It is interesting that Metcalfe didn't have the same problem that we know of.

its a long season and all the big names will likely have a bad moto for one reason or another. No need to worry. VERY early in the game and he looks the fastest and most fit

Seems like Suzuki should have been able to avoid boiling fuel. RC was able to go 24-0 without a DNF.

I used to think last year he only won because james, Chad, RV were not in the whole series. However this year I am impressed with the Dunge.......Not sure what the deal is with his bike but hopefully they figure it out......

BUT... They did not have a fuel pump in the gas tank then...

RV yes, but I wouldn't say he 'destroyed Chad' at all. Chad lost his front end, then by all accounts they were running a similar pace. This will happen to Dungey at some stage in the next 20 motos too. I feel A LOT worse for Musquin!

I was thinking it was a done deal, next thing ,hes outta sight. Reed thought he was down from the podium ,but I think he laid his bike over for more gas.IDK.After 30 mins with a plus 25 lead?? just unbelievable. Then he pushes it up those hills in that heat.

If Chad would't have went down hell he might of won for the day-your right.
I don't know-I just feel kinda bad for him but that is part of the sport and it happens to all of them.

I really feel for Mike Alessi. Would of loved to see how he did outdoors. Guess really shouldn't feel all to bad for Dungey-at least he's healthy and racing. Probably should feel more bad for Canard, Grant, Alessi and the others that are out due to injuries.

It reminded me of Metcalfe running out of gas last year on the last lap i believe. Sucks big time after those guys give it every thing they have and the bike lets them down.

On one hand I'm just gutted for Dungey. On the other, I'm thankful his bike didn't die on the face of a great big jump. Could have been nasty. I'm seeing James' cartwheel at Southwick in my minds' eye.

Another thing that is different.....Team Suzuki is running a different fuel company now.

I know that most teams will run a different blend of fuel at high elevation and at high temperatures. They can't just run the same ol' fuel that they run in SX.

Chad only lost 9 sec when he went down...so no, they were not going the same pace after that. Destroyed may be kinda strong but give credit were it's due. Reed even said in an interview he wasn't too comfortable with the pace they were going early on.

I thought it was awesome how he pushed his bike all the way back. I have seen RV, CR, and JS at several points in their career just throw their bike down after a mechanical failure and let a track worker or mechanic get it. After 30 minutes in the Texas heat, he still had the energy and character to push his own bike back, even though everyone knows he had to of been super pissed at the bike at that point. Awesome job Dungey, you're a true role model for up and coming motocross racers.
