I guess this will open up the opportunity for FMF to sponsor teams in the future with both products but what about where there's a conflict in the future? Is FMF willing to keep their logos off the Kawi bikes when it comes time for the next contract? Obviously most people who are gonna buy the pipes probably know what type is on there anyway but would they still be getting as much as they would be putting in?

Possible reasons for FMF and others entering the energy drink business:

1. Like the risk/reward ratio

2. Watched other succeed and fail and learned from it

3. Extension of brand equity with the target market

4. Owed millions and all I got was this energy drink company

5. Hot chicks

I noticed that JGRMX has taken the FMF logos off the bike following Kawi's lead. Has FMF created a conflict of interest by putting out an energy drink? Almost every MX team has an energy drink main sponsor. What good is it for them to cause teams to take the logos off their bike?
Just an FYI, FMF sells more pipes then PC and all the other companies combined. They have a majority of the market, regardless if they are on top factory bikes or not, their branding/marketing is amazing, Lil D, Big D and Danny LaPorte know their shit.

About pipe building.......

We'll have to see how that translates to energy drinks. The early results show there were issues they hadn't considered.....

Hmmmm.......so FMF's energy drink tastes "a lot" like No Fear energy drink, eh? On its face, I would have taken the write-off. But, again, perhaps this is the exit path through a public offering. Pitching an energy drink company as an investment would be a helluva lot easier than pitching a scooter-pipe manufacturer. Of course, I am rank in my speculation.

some funny stuff in this thread...

DrMarkr - yes, Donny Sr & Jr, Laporte and the crew definitely know a lot about building and selling pipes. best in the biz actually. but as far as the drink goes, it's not just them behind it. Lance Collins is. he did NOS Energy and Fuze Beverages before selling to Coca-Cola for obscene amounts. he knows what he's doing and is very well connected.

Holigan, are you involved with Pompis Energy?

Your right and that is why they took there banners out of the outdoor series and are focusing a 100% on the fmf drink athletes like pourcel and motoconcepts and more to come, yes they help provide support to the outdoor nationals but rockstar made a deal so fmf needds to do what is best. Good luck to all.

Star are marketing the energy sticks not so much the drink like bto sports team byrne and thomas.

Just my take.

I can kind of see why a title sponsor of outdoor series, Rockstar, might not like it too much....

However i would buy and try the FMF drink,, only because it says FMF on the can,,
The FMF drink is all natural and doesn't have that controversial taurine in it. I had some, and it's good.

FMF has been around way before Monster and Rockstar and Muscle Milk. And now that FMF wants to make a drink that is actually good for the riders, the big guys wants to lock FMF out of sponsoring the races and debadging their pipes. What are the big guys worried about???

I also noticed no "Scotts" truck at Hangtown, I heard that Parts Unlimited/Thor won't let them in because Scotts now has riding gear.

I was just on the Nascar.com website seeing who won the "Coors Light" pole for the Coca Cola 600, it was Keselowski in the "Miller Lite" Dodge, he is standing in front of a big "Coors Lite" banner in his "Miller Lite" uniform with a "Coors Lite Pole" hat on!

I don't think the big guys are really worried about FMF as competition. They just don't want them double dipping on their pipe sponsorship. When you sign up to sponsor a team or series as a pipe sponsor you pay a fraction as to what the beverage sponsorships are paying. The fact that FMF thought they could double dip on the outdoor series or teams like factory Kawi and JGR and hardly spend any money is crazy. They wanted to be in the beverage category so now they are gonna see how fierce it is compared to the MX industry.

And as far as making a drink thats good for the riders thats just their marketing scheme to try to be different. Do you know that any energy drink like monster, RS, Red Bull, etc can add 8% coconut water and claim it as a rehydration product? Its all games with putting just enough of something in it to make a claim. Go do the research. We will see if any trainers are using FMF with their riders on race day, yeah right.

It's a sad day on Vital when we are talking "monetize" and "IPOs". I thought this was an MX forum, not an MBA forum.

Not to change the subject, but is Bubba riding outdoors or not?

It's definately going to be an interesting silly season this year with riders, exhaust companies and now drink companies all changing and jumping ship. Just wait and see.

if you look at whos handling it, the distribution, the marketing....it's actually gonna be a lot easier for them to break into the market over any random joe drink. FMF is actually quite well known brand before they even hit the beverage market. Do you really think emlers/fmf would risk conflicts of interest if it wasn't worth it? no businessman strives to fail....and from what i've seen for the last 25yrs, he pretty much a winner in the businessman world. i wouldn't bet against them.
I was thinking the same thing.

FMF can easily become the next Cannondale. I have read many case studies in B School and venturing outside of your core business is usually not a smart business decision. How many companies are conglomerates? GE
