Note: These aren't mine but a friend of mines. A local guy here in the Toledo area builds these and AF 500's as well. This bike has the '94 YZ motor. My friends kid who races it loves it and is pretty much over the 250F's. He likes the really agressive power of the '94 motor I guess. But anyways here are some bike porn pics, looks better in person!

cool. i'm a little surprised at choosing a 94 motor over a new motor though.

I was too, I personally have ridden the 2005 and up bikes and really like the power delivery on them. I guess every one is a little different. Lol. Another buddy of mine loved his 2003 KTM 250sx, that motor was nasty, like a light switch. He loved it though.

Yeah, I think the new YZ motors are the best 250 2-stroke motors power delivery wise ever made. I have an 09 KTM 250SX, lots of power, but not quite as good for my riding style.

I am on my way home in the next few weeks and I think I am going with the 2012 KTM 250SX but.... that is pretty sweet right there too! I might have to reconsider.... maybe one of the Service AF 250's.... I would go with the 500 but I remember riding those things and they were BRUTAL!

I know my opinions matters alot, but that thing is ugly. The sideplates, the rad shrouds, the fender, it's just yugh.

A nice clean stock-ish looking yz-inger is where it's at

For some reason dirt scooters just look better with a big pipe and small silencer, no matter what color scheme.

very nice!

Yes, I have to agree, I'm not big on the new Yamaha styling, looks too Japanese to me.

It is a cool project that looks to have come together well. I just dont understand the reason.

Yamaha developed an Al frame specifically for the YZ250.

There is more to making a chassis than simply bolting in an engine. I doubt that there were any weight savings. I would actually think the opposite.

Sorry to piss on the parade. It is cool none the less. I just would have spent my $$$ differently.

Team Yamaha used 94 motors and/or cylinders througout 1998. And don`t forget the current motor design is the same as the 99 model, so I think it`s a really cool and interesting choice

Would be good to test between the 2 to see how the chassis for a current 4 stroke with 2 stroke implant rates against the chassis designed specifically for the 2stroke, from a few years back. If the new gen chassis is better, how hard would it be to just drop that 2 stroke motor in each new year or model make over 250F? They wouldn't have to tool up for much which should keep the price right down.

It wasnt done with a wieght savings in mind, it was more of here is the latest and greatest chassis from them. Yeah the current YZ is a great bike but the design is 7 years old. The reason why the 2 stroke chassis look so much different then the new ones is simply the casting and spars are inside out, there is no other specific reason.

I wonder if the bare frame of say a 011 honda 450 is heaver than the 07 250r? I know the engine is definatly heavier so did they have to add more strength/weight to the frame? If the frame of a 011 450 is heavier than the a 07 250r then power to weight is already a issue... Have to go borrow crfby"s 450 for a week n drop my motor in it. I"m sure he won"t mind.

Just because they already made an aluminum frame doesn't mean the newest generation (current 250F) isn't better. Chassis design constantly evolves.

I'm guessing the 94 engine is good enough for 99,99%? Very cool bike by the way! Smile

The 1994 YZ250 engine was UNBELIEVABLE when equipped with the long rod kit. Excellent motor choice.

I agree. Unless if you have a 2011 250f that blows the engine and can't be repaired easily, or you have a spare bike worth of part laying around, it's a step backwards. That new frame was made with a heavier engine in mind. But either way, the new look is so much uglier than the stock YZ look.

Oh well, to each his own.

Black out the license plate on the car in the background next time. You never know when someone is finding out where this bike is stored. Know what I mean? Looks like a more remote area than where I live.

Agreed. Glad you understand that there is the actual concept of chassis "design"

All I am saying is hey guys Yamaha built an Al frame specifically for that bike already.

That 250F frame is for a heavier engine with different engine characteristics. Hence the frame most likely posses difference flex properties than its 2 stroke cousin.

Not saying it wont work well or isnt cool. Just pointing out that there is more to a chassis then bolting in an engine.

Like 99.9% of us would notice the difference, and if we would get if the diff is negative etc.

It's just a cool thing to do, and everything with our sport is brain dead anyway! Smile I mean I rode an 1991 CR125 some years ago, and if felt pretty good, different than the 02, but worse? But you are probably 100 % right.

Now the question to you. If I offered to give you this bike or an 06 YZ250 in same condition, which one would you take?

Id take the 06 my man! I have a lot of respect for the little Japanese engineer dude that works at Yamaha and designed that chassis.

An AF is only from Service Honda, not just any frame/engine swap.
