I remember when MCM2 game out it was so much fun. Then when I started playing online it was insane to actually play people over the internet was a new experience and chat to them after the race. Great race or GR
Then with the MCM2 Track editor and all the tracks you could download that was heaps of fun as well I easily downloaded several hundred tracks and rider skins.
I am chasing that MCM2 feeling.
Over 10 years later we have a game with a handful of tracks. Most people are doing the figure 8 tracks over and over to level up. No Track editor or custom tracks that people have made.
MCM2 had a life for 5-6 years.
The question I ask myself is why do i remember MCM2 as so much fun and alive as not fun. Was It a better game? Or am I getting older and growing out of having fun with computer games.
Counterstike was made by some Vietnamese kid who used the Half-Life engine to produce his game. What become a hobby/test turned out to be one of the biggest and most played online games in history. You didn't even have to buy the game, all's you did was download a patch and combine it with your half-life cd key and you had two totally different games running off one disc.
Gone are them days. Everything is driven by the all mighty dollar now and mods are now purchased by money through downloaded content.
I thought it sucked pretty hard at first,
I spent the extra five bucks and unlocked all the bikes and tracks which made it funner.
I warmed up to the physics of the game, they just took some time getting use too.
The arcade type play sucks though....How am I suppose to pretend to be a motocross champion without a career mode?
The lack of tracks sucks ass too....The no supercross on the game is just shitty.
The snow levels are ultra gay.
The gestures are the gayest thing about the game.
I dislike how different performance parts don't do anything for example, a Leo Vince exhaust does the same as a FMF one
The game has potential but it seem like they just threw it together.
Also the user interface of choosing gear and all that is really bad.
I do like how lines develop on the track though
1. I can't get a start to save my life. Tried everything I can think of with body positioning and clutch. I start every race last and have to play bumper cars the whole way.
2. Got the full mod 125 and its sweet. Full mod 250F on the other hand does nothing but bog all the way around the track. At random times like going up a jump or at the exit of a turn.
These 2 things are working on my patience pretty hard.
For the first I just lean slightly forward hold the clutch in with the throttle pinned and as the gate drops, and I roll out just slowly rotate your weight back but only slightly back or you'll wheelie.
With this game you can't be stupid with the controls like you could in Reflex when it comes to front and back body position.
It's all I use to get my games for PC. No DVDs/CDs... and the deals are great!
Killed Counterstrike? In what way? You can still play it. If anything, they made it better (IMO). Last I played it was 5-6 years ago at least, so maybe something changed since then, but I doubt much has.
Been playing that game since 2001,if you decide to play look me up. I'll hit you up with my info.
BS running in the background?
Steam uses about .02% of a modern CPU.
No anti cheat and VAC sucks? There are plenty of anti cheat platforms. VAC is one of the best because it removes your account, along with all of the games that you bought. The control that consoles offer isn't the solution. The CS haydays were way before anyone cared enough to hack the game. Valve isn't dedicating resources to to secure the game. It was 6 years ago. Also, play a modern game like TF2, and you will realize that VAC is much better than you thought.
Hacked accounts?
This can happen on ANY platform that offers DLC. Just look at the PS network.
Loading errors? It's an old game that was ported to the source engine.
In regards to Reflex on Steam....
I've had better luck playing online on my PC than I've had with my 360. There are plenty of groups that you can join, the Reflex steam group, maniacs, a bunch of other racing clans.
There are some issues if you race online with
a) crossfire or SLI- don't race with multiple GPUs. The game doesn't support it.
b) people from other countries - I race with a few guys from overseas, and the only time you can do it is with a good ping. This is a problem in ANY game, though. It is tough to go international. It just depends.
c) make sure you have decent hardware and drivers - low FPS will make you go 1mph yet clear all of the jumps. Reflex was hastily ported to console, but it works pretty damn good! Don't complain if you can't play with an onboard intel chip.
d) The matchmaking servers occasionally crash - If the steam servers go down, or the game servers crash, it sucks. but it is usually for a few minutes.
Aside from that, there aren't as many people playing on PC. The best thing to do is join some steam groups and play when they play. I'm still in the top 10 for PC on MXlite on every national track. I just like the 125.
It is tough to just join a room and have a real race. Of course, they did port this game and didn't advertise it at all....but besides that, you can change settings, and even have anti aliasing. It just isn't optimized for PC, but if they could get the market for PC games, it could be insane quality with the power of modern computers.
Having this Google Chrome window open is using 50 megs right now... In fact each window is 30-60 megs... my anti-virus is using 20 megs...
Anyway, point is on a half-decent system (even one thats 5 years old), Steam isn't even a blip on the radar.
I'll give you the VAC thing though... it IS pretty useless.
I'll definitely look you up if I decide to load it up again!
PS- Sorry for getting off topic!
Reflex's issues have zero to do with Steam anyway. Any issues that have come up are a reflection of how it was ported. My main issue though is the servers. They ARE pretty bad. Just played earlier.... got booted twice in the middle of races. Not to mention when the same track keeps repeating, race doesn't start at the same time for everyone, etc.
Besides the online issues the game actually runs pretty damn smooth for me.
Pit Row
If so, my name is Blank0......the guy with the 125.
Accounts were never hacked until Steam came along. Only way to have gotten your account hacked before Steam is if you were dumb enough to give your cd-key to somebody. Loading errors.. Yes it still has loading errors.. I've been getting the occasional HL.exe error for the last 2 months.
Server list has never worked right since Steam came along. And I'm not the only one having that problem. Download xfire and refresh all servers through that and see just how many servers steam doesn't pick up.. I'm picking up 919 Cz servers through steam with all filters unchecked. Xfire I see 1590 Cz servers.
As far as I'm concerned, the only thing Steam brought that was good was friends list which also is down often.. And TF2,I tried the original back in the day and just wasn't impressed with it.
You're not doing it right. Like most people on vital, you're complaining about it as well.
Chances are, you don't know a thing about the hacks. How did you identify the hacks? what language do they use?
"As far as I'm concerned, the only thing Steam brought that was good was friends list which also is down often.. And TF2,I tried the original back in the day and just wasn't impressed with it. "
You aren't a PC gamer, and that is fine. Don't comment on a platform that you haven't used in years. A properly implemented steam game is just as secure as any console game. Both for the developers, and the users.
Not to mention that TF2 and Counterstrike: Source are on the same engine, even thought they are years apart. Not being impressed with it has nothing to do with how VAC is implemented and it's overall effectiveness. But thanks for that hour long chat on steam that solidified the fact that you know very little about video games.
I can't imagine being on a commercial development team. The stupidity is endless.
Anyone able to get the compound on PS3 yet? Australia's PSN has yet to be activated...
I dont see the so called awesome "Bar to bar" racing. More like bouncing twitching and glitching. It looks terrible. Tight first turns with all the riders together look like a bunch of twitching fish stuck in a can. Nothing cool about that, I dont get how a game coming out in 2011 could have such crap graphical issues. Sometimes the other riders are not even fully rendered when coming close to them.
No replays... LAME. These seem to have got worse with every new game. Does no one care to see the crazy moments again?
Trying to use the clutch and brake right next to each other... awkward. I feel like JS7, he dont use clutch anymore anyway.
Bikes... what happened? Reflex bikes looked real these look like dwarfed versions of the zero electric bike. No gyro effect? Sad.
Body... Why so big? hardly stands up, doesn't twist the throttle, bad style.
The level 25 tracks are better then the snow BS, but still not very good. Have the developers ever been to or watched an outdoor national? This isnt 1970, they dont use car tires to line the track.
I miss reflex.
Or maybe that "feature" could be a disabled option in an upcoming patch....Please !
From MXVSATV FAQ
Why do the riders sit like “goons”? We’ll now go a little into “behind the scenes at a developer,” where we had to make some calls on the collision that resulted in the somewhat—er—stiff posture the riders have at certain angles. Put another way, the way to make the bar banging feature work resulted in a stiff seating posture.
For the most part, the riding engine is much improved.
