SammyD Added a reply to Reed’s accent
3/4/2025 8:41pm My dad is American, lived in London 50 years and sounds full yank. Vast majority of people pick up accents. Definitely not a conscious effort. You know what people don’t pick up accents? People who can’t ‘do’ other accents. It’s like being able to roll your tongue, you can either do it or you can’t.

SammyD Added a reply to Daniel Blair: The Whole Truth (updated with YouTube link)
3/4/2025 11:10am I feel like the one thing people can do to be heard is to not watch the next broadcast on Peacock. Just watch it on Youtube. A ratings dip is the only thing these networks understand.

7/10/2023 12:35pm For what it's worth... I went to Pala yesterday, first ride in like 3 months. I'm 50 yrs old. That previous ride was not good, couldn't get a flow, struggled to save the bike when it got a little out of shape. I have very low hopes for a good time when I went yesterday. Turns out I had a...

3/3/2020 9:38am The silencer is a comparatively minor part of the equation if you're talking about power characteristics. The 02 has different port timing and head dimensions to the new models. It was an impressive grunty engine which hits hard. If you don't want to modify engine components, go with a flywheel weight, a standard pipe and silencer and try adjusting the timing. After you try that and if you still want it more mellow, you can always put a slightly thicker base gasket on the cylinder.

3/3/2020 9:38am I have a completely stock. '01 YZ250 that I run with a stock pipe and silencer. the low end is amazing and I think over the years Yamaha has added a little too much volume to the head which almost mellows it out too much. The YZ250x has considerably less compression (different head) than the YZ which lessens the snap off the bottom. I don't know why you think a flywheel weight won't help but the hot ticket was to run an 8oz flywheel weight even in moto. For woods/playriding people would even go heavier. The YZ-x probably felt pretty...

3/3/2020 9:37am This is very solid advice right here. You don't get much from changing the silencer, but you can really change the power spread with a small change to the timing. The FMF fatty pipe is pretty good for drawing out the power and being super smooth on the YZ. I run a Factory Fatty at at some of our local tracks where the corners are flat or off-camber and the soil is slick. The PC pipe has a harder hit and pulls mid/top (probably not your flavor with the hit) The Bills pipe is more low/mid oriented. (if you can...

3/3/2020 9:36am The X has a different head, CDI, and powervalve setup. You don't need to spend a bunch of money and copy these things though. I would start with retarding the ignition timing 1-2 degrees. The whole short silencer = more bottom end is not entirely accurate. Outlet size matters more. What exhaust setup you running now? I would just stick with stock if you're looking for smooth delivery. After, that FMF Fatty is known as being very well rounded. Pick any silencer.

3/3/2020 9:36am So much great info here, thanks! I am running the stock pipe and silencer. Swapping silencers on the KTM is an easy and very effective way to tune the bike for differing riding - sounds like it might not do quite as much for the YZ. I'm surprised they de-tuned the bottom end on the YZ250X - for enduro riding...

3/2/2020 4:33pm I have a totally stock 2002 YZ250. I rode a 2020 YZ250X at a dealer event, and the power off the bottom was much less potent than my 2002, and much better for the choppy track. I want to take the some off the power off the bottom. I may go with an updated powervalve, if it will fit -...

SammyD Added a reply to Time for new knee braces. Post acl rupture
2/22/2019 1:32pm I blew my ACL. Surgeon (rides dirt bikes) told me that a knee brace won't help with ACL protection. I bought a CTI which is nice but I can see it's a waste of money for the ACL. The way an ACL tears - you can't really limit that movement with a brace, the upper part of the brace still...
